Where can I get parts for my Sturmey Archer S5 hub?

Earlier before, I started a thread on how to put together my Sturmey Archer S5 hub to a 1968 Triumph sports bicycle that I plan to convert from 3 to 5 speeds. The left and right sides are a bit stiff and doesn't have some of the slight pull that's usually found on 3 speed hubs, especially with the indicator chain. I inferred that a clutch spring and/or low gear spring may be missing, maladjusted, or inoperable. A clutch spring is easily found but the low gear spring might be harder to find or it's simply a case of me not knowing where to look. Does anyone know of any websites or stores where I can find such parts?

I inherited some old SA parts of a 4-speed. If you can provide a picture with a ruler, I'll look and see if I have it for you.

What do you need a picture of exactly? I have the hub with a ruler against it. It's approximately 15.8mm long and 7.7mm wide.

I'd need a picture of the part you need, with size info. I can look through my box of parts. Who knows what I might find?

The site won't let me show you pictures yet, but it's a low gear spring that's missing or inoperable. I found the manual on Sheldon Brown's website and it's part number 39. It's very tiny so you might miss it at first, but it's there coiled around the main axle.

It sounds like HSA 128, which Freeman's (URI above) lists for 99 pence. There is also a cup-profile washer that goes with it. If you can find a scrappable three-speed (AW), there should be one in there.

You can work around the restriction on posting pictures, by putting it on an external site. Then you will find that you can not post URIs either, but if you strip off the http//site.part
and post the site and tail as separate pieces, they can be pasted back together.

Is it the S5 manual on Sheldon Brown's site? If so, #39 on the exploded diagram is HSA273 - small spring around the axle. I'll look later today to see if I have one. (I no longer have my S5 bike - just a box of miscellaneous SA parts I inherited.)

Oliver, sorry but I do not have that spring. Good luck - I hope you have success to tell us about.

Sorry for getting back so late. Thank you anyway. I'll take the hub to a local mechanic and see what he can do with it.
