First Metric Century Group Ride
Today I did my first metric century group charity ride (it was actually 68 miles). In the first few miles I actually hooked up with some guys/girls that I had ridden a couple of group rides with this and they graciously allowed me to ride with them (all them had road bikes and I had my Trek Fitness 7.4). I found out very early that everybody in the group was expected to take their turn at the front, even an old guy with a heavier bike. The ride went really well, except for one fall (see my other thread), the conversation was great and the sags were well stocked with lots of goodies.
FYI - We did the 68 miles at 18.5 mph and I am proud to say that on the pulls I participated in averaged above 20 mph. Before you get to impressed though this was a very calm day in Kansas wind wise and the elevation gain was only 896 feet (this was the annual Flatlanders ride). Next week won't be so easy with lots more hills.

Planemaker,
I did the Flatlander last year and had a great time. Ya gotta love all the home made granola & energy bars and home made cookies that they hand out at the sag stations. Did they do the usual Newton-Sedgwick-Bentley-Halstead-Newton route or did they try a new course?
