That's so nice for a circa '87 something-something. Early Miele, Marinoni, Marin, Maruishi, Can't quite make out serial number.

Information on MTBs made by Marinoni is scarce, and none of the pictures I've seen have U-brakes.
But the M does look right, and the bb guides do look like this:

Marinoni normally has a 5 digit serial number, with the first number being the last digit of the year. It appears that yours has a five digits, starting with a 7 which makes sense for 1987. If you email Marinoni, see website, they can confirm it is built by them.

Several Marinoni bikes have come my way and I still have two in my little collection of vintage road bikes. Perhaps this will help...
I should add that the picture with the odd style M belongs to a Marinoni that I still have. Also, many Marinoni frames are pantographed with the Marinoni name somewhere on the frame itself, usually the top of the seat stays...
