Search sold items on eBay and you’ll get a feel for the value of a DA7700 groupset. I’m going to say around $350, not counting the wheelset. I just cobbled together a DA7800 groupset that totaled more than this. Condition plays a factor as well. Most buyers don’t like their RD or STI levers banged up.

You’re encountering one of the many illogical aspects of our C&V hobby. I’d buy this frameset for $150 and hang $600 worth of components on it but I’d only pay $500 for someone else’s complete bike. There is currently no known cure for this affliction.

Yup, when "...unless it was something I really wanted" gets thrown into the equation, and it's in great shape, all of a sudden it might be worth more than a sane person might want to pay.

First off Tim you must be one tall gentleman.
Secondly I considered the excellent overall condition of paint and components as well as the the fact it has almost no wear on the rings etc. I offered him everything in my wallet, $650.
Truth is there would be no chance to replace or build up a facsimile at this price.
Wasn’t enough. Too bad. Now I have my eye on an 85 Olmo for approx the same numbers and around we go.

Not that tall, 6 ft 1, but I have a 36 in inseam. The paint on that frame is outstanding, a bit surprised by the surface corrosion on some of the components, spokes and skewers mostly, considering the location. I think you made a pretty fair offer in today’s market, it’s only a 7 speed with dt shifters, as is mine. The components are nice, from a vintage point of view, but the real value there is the frame, unless you really have to have a black 91 Waterford TrueTemper OS Paramount, it is time to move on.
Tim

Owner probably does not know the current market value or hopeful a buyer will not.
You made an excellent offer.
Tell him to review the posts on this thread and he may change his mind if not too hopeful and respects opinions on BF. Did you mention the ebay recent sales you checked?

That’s a pretty decent $650 bike in today’s market. Not great, but decent.

I admit it: I'm a sucker for a pretty face.
When I see a classic ride with a near pristine finish and good overall condition, and it's a bike I've always admired, boom, valuations out the window.
I mean, if it's a sharp ride, and you gotta have it, I would not let a few hundred dollars get in the way.
Hello, my name is Larry, and I have a bicycle problem.

Larry, haha I’m developing the same affliction. I’ve taken 800mg ibuprofen and have a cool rag over my head

Agreed -- life's too short to quibble over a few bucks - IF - its a bike you can put to immediate use and get a lot of smiles and miles out of

darn, the seat cluster sure looks sweet!
I like that the brake bridge has those reinforcements (lugs, don't know what they are really called).
That is a tell tale sign of a high end frame.
I'd love to see the bottom bracket shell.
That's a place where many frame makers kinda cheap out, even though the plain Jane BB shells are perfectly serviceable and have stood the test of time.
