Cino Heroica

Just a heads up for those of you who might want to do this ride (the weekend after labor day). There is a waiting list for the last 60 spots and the organizer will select (somehow) from the waiting list on June 1. If you're riding it get your hat in the ring.

I didn't do this last year because Patti had knee surgery the week before the ride, so I am amped to do it this year. Several years ago I put together a 1979 Trek TX-930 just for rides like this - and I was silly enough this spring to sell the wheels from that bike to a friend in need. That was stupid, but I just got all of the parts together to build a new set for the bike - Campy high flange, DT Revolution double butted spokes, alloy nipples (fiesta style, black and silver alternating because I didn't have enough of either color), and Mavic Module E2 rims.

I had my doubts, but I haven't forgotten how to lace a wheel after all these years. I stressed them in on a couple of miles of gravel roads and they are super - except for the monstrous 25C Gatorskin wirebeads that I had left over from the tandem. Bulletproof and almost new and weighing almost as much as the rims!

I haven't forgotten how to ride vintage cycles either, even though the last couple of years have been mostly astride either my mountain bike or my Madone. This summer I am going to strive to get at least one ride a week on the vintage fleet (that I have left).

You'll be the envy of all the Montanans (Montanians?) there at the Cino Heroica, luker.

Sounds fun!
Where did you get the rear derailleur pully cage? Rally?

I dunno if we are in yet. There may be a lottery... Pick is June 1. But I think that this lottery thing is just a ploy to get some commitment from people.

That derailleur is, I think, a stock factory release. It is sort of a dogcatsnake...the plates are Nuovo record, the knuckles and bolts are gran sport, and the cage seems to be from a Rally. I think it was just cleaning up old stock parts in the bins, but it works pretty well. I did have a second generation rally on the shelf when I put this bike together, and I liked the way that the Nuovo record worked better!

Frank, they'd let you in for free! (Actually, the ride is free for everyone, I think...)
