Heist of one of my bikes I restored!
So, this is a great story:
I found a yard sale Free Spirit step through frame a couple months back. The paint was great, needed very little to get rolling and I had some tires to fit it. It only needed that little snap on washer to hold the rear sprocket onto the hub and it was ready to flip. I just completed a teacher education program and was having a hard time finding a job and had a yard "full" (20ish) bikes and was prepared to do some major flipping when the college kids move back in to try and make it with my wife knocked up and what not.
But, I score a teaching job and we decide to move, so the flip pressure is off. I actually want to unload a few bikes, but most of them need so much more work than I have time for in the timetable that school will start and we needed to move, etc. I see so much potential in the fleet that I don't throw any in the trash that aren't bent, that's healthy right?
I have the free spirit ready to go, ride it over to the salon my wife works at to make sure it is hunky dory, the lady she works with loves it and says she wants it. I know I can yank 2 hundys out of the thing on CL once I throw a basket on it, but this lady is great and helped us out with a free dryer before when she got a new one. she insists on buying it from me, so I tell her give me whatever you think, she gives me a fraction of market price and I say sure, b/c I have 10$ tied up in the thing. I just tell her to tell everyone she paid 250$ for the thing if they ask.
FFWD to last week one night, phone rings at 4 in the morning. wife doesn't answer, and then says, "I think that was the salon calling." WTF!, I say call back and if someone answers call the cops. So, she does, and the cops answer. Someone has broken into the salon.
Next day she tells me that the only thing stolen was the Free Spirit bike!!!
I am looking for a pic to prove this actually happened. It was a really nice bike (for a free spirit.)

It wasn't stolen, your bike just became the project for an episode of "Pimp My Ride".

Sounds like she paid too much for the Free Spirit. If you can get "two hundys" for the bike that's a great market.
What does that translate to in US Dollars?
Probably best that it was stolen so that it didn't ruin their friendship when the bike snapped in half, dropping her on her face.
Weird story, but stuff happens.

I found it pretty pretty amusing, no matter how implausible it seems for someone to steal a Free Spirit...musta looked really good.
One thing does chaff my backside though and its that I used to have a pretty 'clever' name when i registered here. A 'concerned member' thought it wasn't 'family friendly' enough and I was asked to change it. I just hope for the OP's sake that the same 'concerned member' feels differently about the 'family friendliness' of the humorous use of a feminine hygiene product in someone's name. ALbeit, my 'clever' shot at humor was fellatios in nature.
honestly it worked out fine for me...couldn't be happier really....just saying for the OP's sake.

After reading that, you'll certainly have no problem filling each hour long period with the sound of your own voice. Hope the kids don't get tired of hearing it. What with your wife all knocked up and such. But certainly they'll love hearing what your screen name is.

I could not watch that show. It made my flesh crawl. If someone stole and Drewed one of my cars I would be on a homicidal rage. Now if they did a stock restoration....well that's different.

Even diagramming sentences and flow charting doesn't help the tale make sense. Nouns included bike, wife, college kid, trash, basket, lady, dryer, pressure, and phone. It reads like "Mad Libs". Please tell me you don't teach in District 11 or District 20. My kids have enough problems with the multiple languages slung around my house.

11:21pm Friday post, perhaps posted after some Friday night drinks?
I agree with the first sentence of the post. It is a great story.

so......this guy is trying to flip some bikes but instead his wife gets knocked up by some college kids. Right? I get that part.
Or were the college kids getting horny because she was already knocked up?
But why did somebody break into the salon and call them?
