Quabbin Reservoir Classic

I'm headed east in a couple of weeks and saw this 120 miler on the calendar. Looks interesting, tempted to see if I can squeeze it in around family duties.

Has anyone done this race or planning on doing it this year?

Wondering if it's worth doing. Any insight into the race and course would be helpful.

thanks in advance

Course is essentially a never ending series of power climbs between 2 and 10 minutes long. Pavement is good except for the back stretch on the eastern side of the lake. Not much wind because of the tree cover. It was really well run last year, if you're a climber I'd recommend it.

32A and Greenwich Rd are a lot rougher IMO than last year. Hopefully some of the frost heaves will lay down a little bit more and they are starting to patch roads around here.

beautiful course. I'll be doing the straight 3's race... only 62 miles.

I wouldnt say it's a climbers course. It does finish on a climb, but nothing too long or steep if memory serves me.

I think I'm going to do the 4's. Never ridden it before, but it should be fun.

I'm new to the scene, and I don't know who Mike Norton is. I've heard of him though. Regardless, it isn't an A race for me so it should be a good day of training.

yup, me too. I'll be doing the Turtle Pond Circuit race up in NH on saturday. 110 miles of racing in 24 hours is usually good for a nice fitness boost for this middling cat 3.

anyone else gonna double up this weekend?

IMO yes though I know its a subject that is a prickly one. To his credit he runs a bunch of races, that said, many of those races have had some questionable reputations which somehow never have stuck to him. Add to it his racing record (remember that whole cdr fractured hip thing? guess who caused it), and I have trouble being a fan of the man and what he promotes, still might be on the start line but that's a team choice not a personal one.

This thing was freaking brutal. First road race, completely stacked women's field, rainy start

Hardest thing I've ever done in my life and I was summarily dropped, but finished 34th out of 51 in an open field (next year there's going to be Cat-4, hooray!) so at least I got a good training ride in and didn't finish DFL!

Quabbin is a tough but really beautiful race. I'd love to come back to it with some fitness, some day.

Is Pablo's real name eli? Because if not, then bikereg says he didn't win.

Yup, he's a youngin. Fast as heck. He should be a 3 soon, cause this race win must have been worth a lot of points. He's really good at hilly road races because he's strong and tiny.
