Peugeot ID?

I’ve had this bike for a few years now. It was painted when I bought it. Trying to find out exactly what I’ve got and to figure out correct decal set. The only info I have is the numbers on the bottom of the frame:
2926873
UE8M 6C (I think it’s a U)
Any ideas?
If I did this correctly, this should be the photo album where I have uploaded pictures: 24159151 (won’t let me post directly…)

That looks a lot like it, my front badge is different. It’s black plastic with chrome outline. Could the previous owner have switched them out?

Badge is probably original and colour under your original model sticker suggests this bike is probably made somewhere around mid 1980s.

UE8M size 60, here’s one listing for similar bike in it’s original livery:

Appears to me that the new paint was applied without much (or any really) prep right over the original colours. Bet you could simply do some work with some cleaners and mild abrasives to expose the original paint and likely the original decals. I assume you would be repainting before applying decals so its a step you would likely take anyway. Unless you want to keep it black, in which case why not use whatever decals you like the best?

The sticker and headbadge point to circa 1982 but the bicycle looks older. There should be a serial number on the non-drive side rear dropout. That should tell us the exact manufactured date.

T-Mar Isn't the serial number on the paper sticker in the photo of the bottom bracket? Or do you suspect a mismatch?

No that's not the serial number. The actual serial number will be stamped into the metal and have a letter prefix. It will be coded with the Peugeot facility, year and month.

When did Peugeot switch from the riveted plates of the early 1970s to the BB shell stamp on my 1980 PKN-10?

found the number on the dropout: Y30523034. A little hard to read but I think this is it…

Yes, that's the serial number. If transcribed correctly, it indicates that the frame was built during May 1983 at Peugeot's Romilly Sur Seine facilty. However, I wouldn't rule out the "3" actually being a poorly stamped, partial "8", which would make it 1978.

I've seen the riveted S/N plates on some 1976 models produced in very late 1975. I've seen the frame stamped serial numbers as early as 1977 models. It looks like the turnover occured sometime during 1976, for at least one of the Peugeot facilities.

between the two possible dates mentioned you may be able to narrow it down by checking some of the fittings for possible date markings -

barrels of the Normandy Sport hubs

backside of the Weinmann brake calipers

RIGIDA SUPERCHROMIX wheel rims - look for a two digit number inside a small diamond symbol

portion of handlebar stem down inside steerer

right end of handlebar

underside of Simplex Prestige front gear mech

backside of Simplex rear gear mech

pedal barrels

gear block

the “3” was well defined, plus the badge would match up with a 1983
