I have a 1984 Trek 830. Fully lugged, lugged fork, Reynolds 501 ATB tubing, bullmoose bars, all that jazz. All stock, except tires and cable housing. Weirdly, it's teal and I've never seen it in anything but red. Incredible condition, what's it probably fetch?

I believe that's the first year for Trek mtn bikes, I think they were basically putting 26 inch tires and flat bars on touring frames. I had an '85 870 I donated to Yellow Bike.
Not much demand for the older mtn bikes so depending where you live, list it for what you would like to get and go from there.

First year, Reynolds 501, bull moose bars, it's worth some coin! The link below is for a 1984 850, that appears to have been sold for $400, including shipping. It is a Reynolds 531 frame and has Shimano Deerhead, clearly a step up.

So, based on that comp, I would say on ebay, you could perhaps gross $300-$350, and if sold locally, $200-$250.

Aren't there still more steers or wild horses in SD than people? I don't think those hoofers have learned to ride a bike yet, otherwise demand would go up! Beautiful country BTW.

Yep, location can affect bike pricing as much as condition and marketing/presentation.

Mtn bikes are more popular than road bikes out here in the sticks but I guess they don't care for vintage of any kind. I am glad they are wanted somewhere.
Yes, it is beautiful here. Population density almost 11 per square mile!

Depending on where you live (you should let us know) local is going to be tough to sell for even $200. The demand just isn't there. Maybe to a collector on Ebay but even there without a history and by time you are done with fees and shipping..and even then its not 531. I have seen similar bikes sell in the Minneapolis area for $200 but if you want to see some CRAZY pricing check out our craigslist.

Other than the bars, it looks like an '85. Suntour XC Sport also came out late 85 if those are the original components. You can check the serial number here - https://www.vintage-trek.com/SerialNumbers.htm

Here in Raleigh, $150-$200. More likely the $150 number.

I think Oddjob is on the money on this one. This one is a year or 2 off being one of the first. Still worth some pretty good coin say $250-300. What surprises me is this one is still complete and basically original. Most had the bull moose bars and parts stripped years ago, nice sets of early Bull Moose bars in choice sizes go for insane prices, I have seen early Vectors go for $200+, don't start stripping this one has a basic later set worth a lot less . Please whatever you do sell and keep this one together.
