Just wondering the value of the bikes i acquired last Oct. Black one all original except seat and grips. Bronze one all original except grips and handle bar i put on. I still have the original handle bar and grips for it. Not planning on selling them.

Nice bikes and in spectacular condition but I don't see $250, although work101 has probably sold more bikes this "spring" than I have in my life. High ten frames and nutted axels...meh. If you find a collector, maybe, but riders are not going to pay that much. I hate to say but probably closer to $150

I'm inclined to say about 2 bills each, not that Bill isn't right but Bill is much better at selling bikes than most of us.. and repairing them.. and getting ahold of them...

Normally I'd even agree with Digger's assessment but with how pristine those are and the component levels.. I think 200 is about fair each. I'm also assuming Florida is a fairly hot market otherwise probably more like 60-70 bucks.

Not to be disagreeable, but the frames are not hi-ten at all according to the vintage Lotus website. Here is the spec sheet. Top of the page said this was Lotus's top of the line ATB in '83.

Very cool, and also kinda proves the point: vintage mountain bikes are really a buyers market, you can get some amazing stuff for very little cash.

IMHO, depending on market or ebay $300 +/- is not out of the question for those very clean and pristine vintage mtbs. I have routinely sold Trek 930 Single Tracks, Rockhoppers, and Trek 720, 7100, 7.2 FX hybrids, and the occasional Gary Fisher (assorted), for between $175-$250. These have been overhauled and paint is 8.5-9.5, and except for the 7.2 FXs, typically 1990's bikes.

This experience is based on NNJ and Ann Arbor. YMMV.

I would love one of these as a keeper. Only issue you may have selling one of these for top dollar is probably not many folks are searching for a Lotus.

Lotus introduced the Pegasus around 1982, but hasn't been found in a catalog until 1983. We've found a few early bikes and dated the components. The decals are very unique on the first editions of the Pegasus.

The Pegasus was always Lotus' top-of-the-line ATB.

Your bikes are interesting in that they have the 1984 decal style but are the 1983 color combinations. (1984 colors are listed as Oxide Green and Electric Blue). Components on your bikes look more like the 1984 specifications than the 1983 specs.

Lotus also made the Pegasus in 1986-87, but they eliminated the curved brace on the seat/top tube, among other things.

I haven't seen enough of these bikes sell to collectors to put an accurate price on them. I do know that original examples are very difficult to find. Lotus tried very hard to succeed in the high-end bike and ATB markets (they even had a line of BMX bikes), but they just weren't around long enough for that to happen.

Lotus was like Suntour, most people didn't appreciate how good they were until it was too late . . .

These are tough - in my market, marketed properly in town - 200-250. They'll tale a bit to sell as well.

The component mix says '84 to me. It's rare to see Shimano Deerhead on an '83 mass produced bike. I'd guess $200-250 because of the parts mix - that seatpost is not a cheap item.

Snydermann, Thank you for your input on the bikes. That is strange 84 decal style and 1983 colors. I checked the date code on the seat post F-83 and the rear derailleur is HF 1983 June. The couple i got them from were in there early 60's. They told me they were living in Boulder,Co in 1983 went they bought them new. The bikes did have dealer decal on them Cycle Logic 2525 Arapahoe,Boulder Co. They told me the only things that were changed out on the bikes was seat on the smaller one for her and handle bar grips on the larger one for him and I can see why them old handle grips are only about 4" long. And the tires later. All other components are the same on both bikes. Here are the serial numbers on them and thanks again.

These are tough. They're super cool but you might have to be patient to find a buyer, unless you go the ebay route. If I needed to move them I'd ask $150/bike but I agree $300/bike is very fair. They're extremely early (for MTBs), excellent condition, and have all the right components people want.

One problem with selling them, I suspect, is the problem I'd have if I bought them. I'd have no idea what to do with them besides hang them up as collectors.

I sold one a couple of years ago on ebay, even better condition if you can believe it, as it was entirely original and had maybe 5 miles on it. It went to Japan, and I got around $400 for it.

If you wanted top dollar you could part it out. but it would take longer and be more work.
