Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My first thought was that your shifting snafu caused the chain to work like a chainwhip. to loosen the cassette, and from there the axle.. I realize that's a stretch, but it's in the realm of possibility at least.

Now THIS is an interesting map. Finally.

Apparently folks are still flocking to the western third of the country, and to Florida, but not to the middle of the country.

Also a lot of change in Texas reflecting the desire to be near the Cowboys.

But, you don’t know whether those are positive or negative changes. Pretty crappy map with lots of mis-information, if you ask me.

I know - nobody’s asked me.

It's already getting warm, and if I don't get going it will be too easy to talk myself out of it again. That has always been the beauty of Winter. No racing to beat the heat. Sad!

They all are.

The story nearly everywhere is migration from rural areas to cities. Along with the long-term trend to the south (+ quasi-north) and west.

most of the counties in the US lost population. It shows a move to urban centers and their suburbs the way I see it.. NW Metro Atlanta area gained 10-20% and it's very noticeable. I want to GTFO ASAP.

Move to a more reasonably growing county in the Tennessee Valley, with its abundant supply of freshwater?

I know, I decided to take the positive outlook.

I'm confident it holds true for your area, same as for my area. Flocks of NYC people moved north fleeing the pandemic, but undoubtedly an equal number of people filled in where they departed.

Meanwhile, in the real quasi-north, insulated tights and winter jacket required to Zwift.

Same. Heaters fired up because I need them on my feet, otherwise they freeze.

I'm going to need to see some data on that. In the northeast folks were leaving the city in flocks, looking for safety from the pandemic. I could have sold my house in days if I wanted to.

Look at the map. Almost every county that lost people in the last decade is one that lacks a medium-sized city.

It just shows "change." It doesn't show gains or losses.
