Hold back caliper of Park truing stand?
I went to look at what was advertised as TS-2.2 truing stand today that was being offered on Craig's list. It was an estate sale. It turned out to be a TS-4.2. The TS-2.2 had been sold a few days earlier. The stand is out of my budget, but here's the question. I read somewhere that you can hold back one of the calipers on Park stands by using a piece of spoke or a small allen key under the arm. That wasn't possible on this stand. The arms of the calipers are set back a little too far from the edge of the main arm, so the allen key of the spoke won't stay under. It kind of gets torqued. It's hard to explain exactly.,
Is this different on the earlier stands? Can you place an allen key in such a way to hold back a caliper?

I went back this morning and talked the lady down on the 4.2. Way down. I'm embarrassed to say how low, and the thing was practically new, just assembled in June. Only problem is I have to take one for the team. She insisted on a date. The things I do for my hobby!
p.s. I'll let you know if my screwdriver fits.

I use a park-style spoke wrench to hold the extra pointer back. I don't remember who, but someone is selling an add-on device to hold the arm back. But it's not cheap enough for me.

Yes, I just tried that. You know what works even better? A 3/8" bolt, about an inch or so long. It slips right under the caliper and doesn't interfere with the other caliper. Paint the bolt blue and charge $10!

No offense is intended, but I wonder about the mechanical aptitude or skills of someone who can't improvise something like this.
Just about anything would do, from jamming something under the cam to a rubber band holding the caliper back.

The rest is between you and the mirror. Are you someone who asks for help before giving it a shot on your own?
Don't answer, it's rhetorical.
