Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

There are four floors in my office building. As i was leaving for lunch, there was a young package delivery guy in the lobby looking lost. He politely asked me where Suite 400 was. The only answer I could think of was "On the fourth floor." He thanked me and then asked me how he could get to the fourth floor. This all took place about 10' away from the two, clearly visible elevators.

I am still "smh*

Nope.

But we had a good ride. It was well below freezing for the first hour but sunny and warmed up as the ride progressed.

After the ride I swung by the local chocolatier, who actually makes world class chocolates. We have a holiday party at work on Friday and everyone brings a gift for “grab bag” and what better gift than chocolates??

Pic (also on Strava) with a few of my favorite things: Habanero, Saturn, and chocolates!

Poor Frankie has another UTI and we can’t get her in to a vet until tomorrow AM.

She had one 6mo ago and blood tests showed high sugar levels in her urine which likely contributed to the culture growth. Vet said diabetes is a possibility so we put her on some higher grade grain free food and she seemed to be doing so well.

Little kitty might be getting a rx for insulin tomorrow.

I've not been doing any regular, heavy duty exercise in months. I don't check my resting heart rate very often, but I've not seen it below the mid 50s in quite a while.

Is there a good explanation for this datlas ?

Based on this data point alone she told me that I "must have a strong heart."*

Such a pretty cat! I hope all goes well!

I inherited this little guy about six weeks ago; he had belonged to an older neighbor who had to go to a nursing home and couldn't keep him. He is 14 and he goes for his first checkup tonight. It's been five years since I've had a cat!

There are some biotechs around here that close down for the week or two surrounding Christmas. Big places too. I'm jealous of that.

Nope. My usual move is to lean against front window so it’s in sight. I think I took a pic to show my friend Christopher Curtin (owner of Éclat) I was in his store.

Fun fact: Chris grew up in Madison and used to ride with Eric and Beth Heiden, who were serious cyclists BITD.

I'm not "worried" as all systems are otherwise normal.

Just seems like something is up as that must be a two or three-standard deviation below the normal range.

I thought about the iron dump I got yesterday having an impact, but I would expect that would take a number of days to have an impact, right?

Purdy girl!

Stephen's last UTI (earlier this year) set me back over $3K. Fortunately, I am not a far drive from U. Penn's vet hospital, which has 24/7/365 walk-in emergency service, but you pay for it.

Believe it or not, I don't like nearly all chocolate. It has to be something really sweet, like a Snickers bar. Things like brownies, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate ice cream and vile to me.

A small group of us from Deerfield were hiking up Camel's Hump, Vermont's second highest peak, back in '82. One of our adult supervisors, Peggy, was the wife of a math teacher at our school. Both were from MN. As we were hiking up, a group of three came running down the trail. Just after they passed, the woman runner turned around and said "Peggy?" Peggy responded "Beth?" Peggy and Beth chatted for a couple of minutes. After Beth resumed her run, Peggy told us that that had been Beth Heiden. She and Peggy knew each other from college. Being Beth Heiden explained her massive guads.

We do that now, have done for probably 10 years. Before that, no. You'd have this week where only about half the people were there and tumbleweeds were blowing through the labs.
