It's always the downhill that kills ya. If you can't handle the uphill - you just STOP. Can't make that turn on the downhill?

I have walked down more hills than I have walked up. For example rt 3 in northern California before it merges with the Trinity River

That's too bad.

Rolling downhill is fun but I always keep control of my speed.

The most dangerous part of climbing Mt Everest is the descent.

When you're tired, even walking down stairs can be dangerous.

However, this is one case of a cycling self-collision leading to death, which is rare. Now compared to self-collisions by drivers, almost every Friday or Saturday night.
