Cannondale Criterium - Dented Chainstay?
I was thinking of buying an old Cannondale to fix up. The chainstay has maybe a dent or maybe a detent to assure pedal clearance.
Picture below...anyone know if that dent should be there?

Yes, as you supposed, it is there for crank arm clearance; you will see a similar shape on the drive side chainstay as well. Cannondales of that era are great riders and that looks like it is in fairly decent shape. Hope it fits you and if you get it, have fun on the restoration. If you have questions during the process don't be afraid to post them on this forum (unlike a lot of the forums most of the people on this one are supportive and not arsehats).

Thanks for the prompt response.
I have fixed up two other older bikes (25-30 years old) but I retro-fitted those with modern (Chinese) groupsets. I am looking to stay old school with this one if I get it...

There should be two dents on the right side.

"Blimpo" tubing control.
those bikes are stiff, on the verge of too jarring.
but a great criterium machine
