What shop do you go to after Performance Bicycles closed down
I was a performance bicycles customer. I found they had great value. They offered free lifetime bike adjustments and had very deep discounts on good bikes. Are there any bike shops like that in San Francisco? What shops provides similar value on bikes and services?

I can't think of another discount bike shop that has brick and mortar stores the same way. Bikes Direct sells similar bikes by mail order but doesn't have a lot of the kind of defeatured but decent bikes from smaller name brands that Performance did, nor do they have the same kind of accessory selection

I’ve actually had good service at REI (Berkeley is my nearest) and Sports Basement (Novato). But generally I just go with my LBS.

FYI, there is a Sports Basement in Berkeley on Milvia between Derby and Ward in the old Iceland skating rink. I have only bought a tube or two from them, so I cannot vouch for their service or discounts. I can say they are not the place for Classic & Vintage stuff or knowledge. But if you like them in Novato, my guess is you will like them in Berkeley and it may be closer to you.

Sports Basement is a great place for the accessories, and when I need actual service I go to the small LBS where the owner remembers me and offers me lots of options without being pushy.

I'm down in the South Bay and, as far as LBS'es go, for "road" I really appreciate Walt's Cycle in Sunnyvale for being one of the few remaining shops that isn't simply a Specialized or Trek dealer and not only carries a lot more brands for parts and accessories, but also carries much more beyond the racing paradigm of cycling. It's a place where you can go and find practical/utilitarian/"commuter" accessories and parts, and even multiple options for a type of thing. Staff there are always helpful and knowledgeable, even if you're just asking about some random little piece of hardware that might take them five minutes to sift through a parts bin to find and for which they're not even going to charge you a dollar.
