When I can't ride my age (many years from now, I hope), I'll switch to km.

1951. Does that make you HS grad of ‘69? A sixties kid is what I think we are called. I am still having fun searching for ‘self actualization’.

……….and in honor of said ‘search’, I dedicated today’s ride to Tranquility. After the traffic stuff it turned trail-fully relaxing - followed by miles of light gravel with few people.

Sometimes the woods have a huge sense of depth.

At this point I turned off the phone/camera and just enjoyed the rest of the ride.
but a picture or two before the wooded empty trail.

A locked gate…. always makes me wonder the possible view from up past the gate.

Just a short ride to town yesterday only a couple miles. This ride really wasn't about the destination it was about the bike a Jeunet 620 clunker which is now 50+ years old and still rides really nice.

First glance at this picture and I was like " How does that ride with no top tube?"

Hazy day in the bay. I did one of my regular loops into the Berkeley hills—only
about 20 miles and 1,900’ climbing.

I did get run off the road by an AT&T truck coming down Snake Rd. It’s a fun, twisting decent on smooth roads and I was stuck behind the truck from near the top. About halfway down there’s a stop sign. I waited for that stop sign and then tried to get in front at that point. Once we were both stopped for another car to go by—keep in mind that I would have been much faster than this truck—when he saw me starting out at the stop sign, he gassed it to get ahead of me. In the process, I was literally run off the road. As he came around, he moved over to the right, so there was no room between the truck and the edge of the road I had to slam on the brakes to avoid some trash cans. Someone’s going to be getting a complaint with the AT&T office.

To round out the ride, I stopped by one of the local community gardens for a photo of the bike.

Going on vacation soon so want to get some miles in beforehand despite the threat of thunderstorms today. For extra good mojo I took the fendered and dyno lit Heron and brought a rain jacket. I picked a route with options for shortening and of course after the first decision point the previous benign looking skies started looking pretty threatening. I powered into rising headwinds and false flat gravel. Next decision point I chose to cut things short by about 6 miles. I ended up with 31 miles and only felt a few sprinkles. BTW if anyone is planning on a trip to ride the dirt roads in this area, you might want to wait. Man, I have never seen the roads so rutted and corduroyed before. I hit a couple of sections that nearly threw me off the bike gs got bounced around so much it broke the internal support on my bag.

This route finished on the out bound route of Cville Bike a Palooza and I rode past the site of nlerner’s pedal blowout. I was trying to make good time, but I kid you not after an hour of darkening skies there was a spot of sunshine on the ground so I felt obliged to stop and make my obeisance to the earthly representative of the weather gods and I’m convinced that’s why I stayed dry the rest of the ride.

Dark skies ahead

One of the “I need a score card to keep track of these now” pedal failure sites.

Rough road casualty

Always grateful to post this thread

Rained in the morning and heavy overcast, but looong days gave time for a ride before tomorrow’s washout. A favorite bike, the front fender needed on damp, occasional wet roads.

I hear parts of USA are hot. 55°f = mid afternoon. Lighter weight long wool sweater weather.

Strange tree limbs make a nice bike stand

Not supposed to take pics while riding,…..

….but this AustroDaimler is the picture of good balance.
Call me = AustroSwiss cross dresser.

Home again.

Weekend rec ride.

Mt. Fuji view point
hmm, it's overcast, hmm.

the other side of Mt. Fuji view point, there are a Japan Coast Guard's radio relay station and it's antenna.

Baby mikan, mandarin oranges.
Little green balls are baby mikan.
A Canadian friend said, "When I was a kid, mikan was called Christmas orange. Because they were imported from Japan in Christmas season. My mom presented us kids a mikan a kid every Christmas morning. It was easily peeled off, and sweet and juicy. I liked it"

Baby lemons of Yokohama.
They are green acorn shaped.

Same thing again yesterday, ending with 76.
Air quality will be unhealthy today so maybe it's a wrench on a project bike in the garage.

A vintage Dad reminiscence? At least the morning showers that forecasted a washout day missed the area. Cooler (~ 48*) than yesterday so heavier weight sleeved wool + full ‘cold’ weather bib tights. 52* upon return @ noon.

What an inviting diversion of a road. Butt,….there goes the next few acres to housing development

I may be an oldie but fields + pastures + bogs + hills of trees unharvested are a more pleasant environ. Not too many autos this AM.

Baa baa black sheep… yeah yeah… say it with an Italian accent.

Got some half clips in the mail yesterday so I was able to complete my Marin clunker build full Tange prestige frame with mostly DX components for under $20 out of pocket.

Happy Father's Day to all the dads & granddads out there.

I had a ride planned with a bunch of garage doors and murals to share. I started out on my Look, but only got a few miles before I punctured on one of my Veloflex tubulars. The hole was too large to use sealant and I discovered my spare tub's basetape was dried out and peeling, so I headed back home for another bike and Plan B.

How Plan A started...

Note the spare on the rear. It was reassuring to confirm the old, short Silca was still up to the task. "Houston, we have a catch!"

Now for Plan B. The "office" is closed for the summer, but it's been a little while since I watered my class garden, so headed up to school to keep the crops (not shown) from drying out, before heading north, then east into some trails in the Berkeley Hills/Tilden Park area before looping back into Berkeley.

The next part of the ride is one of my fun, alternate commute rides home. It's about a 20-mile loop from my house, including the first 4 miles to my school/work (plus another 5ish for my aborted Plan A ride).

This pond was nearly dried out last summer. I spotted a few turtles on the logs. They used to be abundant here but have been scarce the past few years.

Seemed like a good place for a photo. Okay, that's a lie. This section is steep, and I needed a breather even though the summit was almost in sight.

Back in town...the bike needs a bath. A well-used bike, is a well-loved bike.

I've switched to riding my age in KM, and I often don't do that. My hat is off to all who do it in miles> Congratulations!

24 miles today, beautiful weather, and my company was my GS, 13.5, on a Trek 950 Single-Track or something, and my son on his Lemond Zurich. We live 800 miles apart, so this is a special Father's Day. :-)

Rode a few miles around downtown this afternoon on my 1990 Sirrus. Storms were in the forecast but no rain materialized during my ride.
