1971 Raleigh International: Grail or Fail?
Just rescued this from the pawn shop. Needs a good cleaning. My 1st "good" score?...

I'd say a good score, especially so if it's your size. Also, it's a particularly nice color. Lots of Campagnolo bits on there. Are the derailleurs both Campagnolo? Maybe you could post some pictures of the derailleurs and the crankset.

I would say it is a very nice score looks to be mostly original, the paint and chrome look to be in pretty good shape under the dirt and should clean up nice.

As long as everything comes out (seatpost, stem, etc), I think you got yourself a very nice bike there. Frame in particular should polish up nicely - I only see the barest speckling of rust here/there. After a good cleaning I'm sure they'll disappear.

Obviously very defective, it has those archaic glue on tires and the seatpost binder bolt in oriented the wrong way.
Remnants of a paper sticker/label on the top tube to me suggests the bike was at a traditional storage facility for a long time.

Not, necessarily, a grail bike but certainly nothing that would fall into a fail category. Put another way, the early seventies International is a great score, providing it sports no frame damage and this one looks like a garage queen, in my opinion.
Isn't this fun! Great score. I do wish that my International, which now lives in Hawaii, had come even close to fitting me.

What did you pay?
Aluminum foil and water on chrome to remove rust. Lost of polishing in your future. Excellent score.

Well unless you paid thousands I can't see how it would be a fail. Gorgeous bike, completely original

Great score, Rcrxjlb!! For $25 you got the deal of the day. As it stands it's probably worth 10 times that. With a good cleaning, polishing, waxing and grease job, look towards 4 figures.
