A Milestone for Me

Good morning!

Here is what I did over the weekend. My 50th anniversary century happened over two days, due to operator error causing equipment failure.

There was a lot of elevation change, this being hilly country. Organized ride, grateful for the metric century on day 2.

36 mph! For me 25 is already quite a rush.

Nice job!

I rode one century this year. There's no way I could have done one 50 years ago, because I was only 3 years old at that time. I rode my first one at about 30 years old, and don't know if I'll still be able to swing my leg over a bike when I'm 80, but I sure hope to.

Good on you for doing one with hills, and keeping a respectable average speed too.

You could've gotten it done in one day without that mustache...That's a lot of aero drag.

(Congrats! )

Great effort! This has made me think about how old I was when I rode my first century. I think I was 17, which means I have another 12 years to reach your milestone.

Way to go, the ride at least. LOL.
50 years ago I was only doing maybe 40 to 50 miles on an antique SS Rudge.
But now I can do 120 miles on an IGH heavyweight. LOL. My last ride was 101 miles in 10 hours flat with my Rohloff14. Hour lunch and an hour slow ride after.
Now my season is done like dinner, snowing a bit.

There was a total of 5950 feet of climbing, and the same descending of course, but this hill country takes some getting used to. I put a 10-50 cassette on the rear, with a 42 chainring on the front. If my setup would allow it, I'd have a 50-36 front, but it's a one-by only electric SRAM Force. If I want a double front, it means a new bike. Two years from now I'll do it, if I gain more speed, lose ten pounds, and climb anywhere here without using the 50 tooth rear cog. Then it's all in, and all out...

Nice job! I have a few years to go until I can match you and do a 50th anniversary century. I rode my first one when I was 70, so I'll be 120 when I match your milestone.
