I rode the 56-mile mostly flat Tucson Loop yesterday. The "loop" is more like a pointed ellipse, tilted in a NW-SE direction. The prevailing afternoon wind around here is from the NW, and often there's a lighter SE morning wind. Yesterday I timed my ride so I had tailwinds most of the way. That made it fast and easy, and it sorta felt like cheating.

Thankful to post this thread

Mid-50s temps on Dec 29th? Record high for the date, I think.

An easy ride

A pastoral day

Beautiful country, but sure wish there was a little more shoulder on those roads.

Unfortunately most rural roads in this country are like that. Probably most countries for that matter. But it's all good.

I'm in th sticks....~17mi east of downtown Seattle.

It’s curvy enough to discourage distracted driving. But yeah, I would love a paved trail network that started at the end of my driveway. I have to settle for hilly forested hiking trails.

I was able to get out and ride today it was the first time in almost a week that we didn't have rain. We are in Michigan just south of Detroit and it is almost flat here. I got 19.8 mile ride in but the last 7 or so miles were into the wind. It was nice to be out riding today.

Looks like I'll start 2024!

Rode 54 miles yesterday. Ten miles out to Saguaro National Park, rode the eight mile Scenic Loop Road twice with a group of guys I meet there, then rode 16 miles across town to see the U of Arizona Art Museum. Then 12 miles home. The museum had a Pollock, a Calder, an O'Keefe, the only names there familiar to me. The cycling was a nice mix of urban and rural, with a touch of desert foothills.

Made it out at 9:33pm yesterday for 11.11 miles to keep the 4 day 2024 riding streak going. Couldn't get out early thanks to a PSMA/CT PET Scan to see if/where my Prostate Cancer has returned (metastasized) so not the best way to start off the New Year.

p.s. - breakfast eaten + bike is ready for today's ride making it 5+5, 5 days in 2024 and 5 rides plus same as my PCa diagnosis Gleason10 or 5+5

Same here. A lot of rain in the area overnight and this morning, that big storm moving up the east coast. Luckily, no ice (although the mountains just north of me got some) so I rode the new "Canopies and Coastlines" route in Watopia. 17.25 miles. There's a 25 mile club ride tomorrow afternoon, but I'm waiting to see if it warms enough to keep my knee happy.

Rode 66 miles mostly flat today, around the Tucson Loop plus a side loop on Indian land out to the San Xavier del Bac Mission, the "White Dove of the Desert." It can be seen for miles, in the Santa Cruz River valley:

This rez dog was my lunch companion:

Hi SpedFast ... look closely, the front tire shows a track in the sand, and the rear tire shows the track to the left of the car tire.

I was pulling your leg My first thought when I saw the pic was that you got a push. Looked like a good ride.

Took out my latest project on it's shakedown ride this morning up in the mountains. What a fun bike so far. So easy to control, a bit plush in the climbs but on the downhills it's all business. I didn't care if it was cold, muddy, and damp.

I had an "interesting" ride this weekend on the largely flat American Tobacco Trail. I ride this path a lot because it's close by and there's no cars. Anyway, I rode with a guy I met recently, and...

He showed up with a Mongoose mtb he found by a dumpster, dual suspension, seat couldn't be tightened down so it rocked, he literally spray-painted the entire bike - every single mm of it, incl chain and gears - with black spray paint. It was definitely rideable and safe, the brakes worked.

O and he has MS. He warned me he'd have to stop every few miles, no biggie.

We ended up riding 23 miles, he insisted on it even though I questioned him every time we stopped. Our average pace was 7.7mph. Our riding time was 3 hrs, but the overall time out on the trail was 4.5 hrs. (I usually ride this in 90mins at a very casual pace with maybe 1-2 stops to enjoy the quiet.) I told him afterwards that was a huge accomplishment, but maybe he should start out a bit easier and build up to 20+ miles. C'est la vie...

Anyway, at one point I got completely freaked out. He stopped, I circled back, he dropped the bike and sat on the ground. I asked him what was happening, and he said he lost all feeling in his right leg. He sat massaging it, as the feeling came back he said it was hurting like hell. I knew where we were, but went and found the nearest milemarker (they're every quarter mile) in case I needed to call 9-1-1. Approx. 35 mins later, we resumed riding.

I had 0 prep for another's potential medical issue. This spooked the living crap out of me, and not sure I want to go through this again.

I did ride today but quickly found not getting in much saddle time in the last month my muscles were not happy. I was mentally ready to head home after 5 miles but I stuck it out for 7.2. This ol' guy needs more saddle time. Supose to be low 60's tomorrow and no rain so I'll give it another go tomorrow.
