Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

after months and much gnashing of teeth, scouring the under $750 bike thread, individual posts by me regarding specific bikes (Allez vs eTape, etc) I finally made my decision - and it was nothing like I expected!
I'm now the proud owner of an Orbea Onix TDF!
I've gotten a couple of rides (short ones) in the past 2 days, and I believe I've absolutely rediscovered my love of road biking!
my clipless pedals are on order, btw!

JoesInBoston:

Beautiful Masi.

I believe I noticed something about your bike which needs to be remedied if it hasn't been already.
YOUR CHAIN APPEARS TO BE TOO SHORT.
The chain is on the middle cog and the derailleur is past perpindicular. I don't think you could shift into the largest cog with the large chainring as it sits or even close to it without overextending the rder and possibly damaging components, wheel or yourself as the wheel locks up. While I'm not advocating usage of the big/big combination, conventional wisdom dictates sizing chain to allow such a scenario just in case the aforementioned combination is selected.
Please remedy this immediately if not sooner. I'd hate to hear of a fellow road rider damaging his bike and himself because this wasn't noticed and mentioned.

Hey Rick, thanks for the concern. However, the chain is actually on the largest chainring

The frame is a gorgeous blue/purple colour which Americans call Burple, white graphics, built with bent tube technology and oversized tubes, very light in weight with carbon fibre forks. The groups set is a little mixed, the front and rear mechs are Campagnolo Record, the Crank set is all Campag Record, the Brake calipers are Campag Athena, the Ergo shifters are Campag Chorus, the seat Pin is Campag Aero, The seat is a lovely leather Selle Italia. The handlear stem is 3M, the handlebars are unusual as they are Scott "Drop in's" which I think suit this bike. The wheels are Campagnolo 16 spoke Shamals.
That's crazy cool! And those Shamals look great with the frame.. oh wait, they look great on anything.

My vintage lightweight... a 1973 Raleigh Carlton Gran Sports (Reynolds 531 frame and fork). It is fitted out with a Shimano 600 Arabesque group (c 1979) and Dura Ace centre pulls (c 1974) and is running on NOS Araya wheels on Suzue sealed hubs.

Lighter wheels are in the works and I have a B17 Imperial coming and will wrap the bars to match the saddle.

My Trek 1200

Here is my Trek that I bought a couple of days ago. I just realized that I took the picture from the wrong side. I will fix it tomorrow. This is my first and only road bike, but I have been bitten by the bug now. What a difference compared to mountain bikes. https://s279.photobucket.com/albums/k...02Trek1200.jpg I need to resize it to fit here, Need the wife to do that.

I really like that Carbonio, but I'm not too sure about the normal wheel/aero wheel combination.
