Vintage Huret Downtube Shifters Upgrade

Hi

I want to build a gravel bike out of my (beautiful) 70s steel Motobecane. It has downtube shifters installed with a huret clamp and I want to upgrade to Shimano shifters. I prefer to have a kind of cable holders attached to the frame, but the huret clamp is not like that. So I wonder if you have any suggestions for attaching a kind of cable shifter without doing heavy work such as welding. Or should I just use the huret clamp and just find suitable cable holders with that?

Thank you.

I bought and tried one of these for my old steel 70s Motobecane. It had the same exact shifter setup that you describe. It works just fine but I didn’t like how far off the dow tube the shifters and cables were.

So I ended up going with one of these...

(I did NOT pay $75 for mine. I think it was less than $10 brand new.)

And if they’re index shifters you’ll need these

Yes, I would like to have STI, NOT downtube.
I guess clamp-on downtube shifters adapter PTP that Dan mentioned above, combined with some kind of cable holders would work. Though i'd prefer a simpler setting if you know any.

This is not hard. You could go with shimano bar end shifters or STIs. In either case, you simply need a downtube cable clamp.

This one is $10:

Sorry. I guess I misunderstood your OP. Sounded to me like you want to maintain downtube shifters but just Shimano indexed.
