Selle San Marco Rolls Rino

All the info says either:

1) Cover: Leather ( rino ) or

2) Cover: microfeel - Breathable and hard wearing cover. It is lighter than traditional materials and less deformable. Anti-skid effect with an extraordinary grip on the saddle. Biocompatible material.

My old Rolls needs replacing... it sags and squeaks and looks ... old.

LOL, no. I think it refers to the pattern.

edit: looks like it is a brand. About Us

The website states "rino" and not "rhino" so we cannot assume what they might mean. Perhaps rino is a treatment or a finish?

This ebay ad for a similar item calls it "buffalo" and says it is embossed calfskin.

No, not made from a rhyno (rhinoceros) but a RINO (republican in name only).

Thanks - that's what I was looking for. Looks like they make mostly belts - similar use for saddles I guess. Funny that all of the RINO leather saddles have that particular distressed-pattern when the pattern itself seems to have nothing to do with the leather.

OK, so anybody have an opinion/review on the saddle?

The fake leather ones cost twice as much... so I guess I'm OK with a buffalo sacrifice... buffalo probably being an Asian water buffalo, not a bison.

Made from a rhinocersatz hide...

...reminds me of my kid's rocking "horse" which has a rhino horn, hippo teeth, is fuzzy pastel green and whose tag claims it's a dinosaur.

You mean the Gatorskin tires aren't made with real gator skin?
And the Armadillo tires aren't made with Armadillo hide?

I'm disappointed

I'm sure this is going to get moderated away, but, IMHO, we should make bike saddles out of all the Republicans currently running for POTUS. I can't imagine a more worthwhile use for any of them.

Do not buy. RINOS are notoriously thin skinned.

Finally, a product review!

Actually, I'm more concerned about the saddle's tolerance to adverse weather conditions... and I don't want it to get all wrinkly.

Bison are quite a common agricultural product these days, so there's no good reason why a saddler couldn't get ahold of some hide if they wanted to:

Current Status | National Bison Association
"Today, bison producers can be found in all 50 states, every Canadian province, and in several countries overseas. The 2012 Census of Agriculture reported that approximately 2,500 private ranches and farms today raise 162,000 head of bison across the United States. Approximately 25,000 additional animals are kept in public herds. And, the Canadian herd is estimated at 150,000 head."

If anyone did happen to make a bike saddle out of a rhino, they should have their teeth gouged out with a dull knife.

whew... got me started there.

Sure. Google "bison leather" and you'll find plenty of finished goods and a variety of tanned hide that you can make stuff from.

I looked into getting bison leather for my saddle recovering, but didn't find any even near as thick as the stuff I'm using. For a leather covered padded saddle, I'm sure you could get some. Whether it would have any advantage over the many other kinds of leather you can get, I have no idea.

No doubt. I presume this leather is water buffalo though because it comes from Turkey and water buffalo products are quite a large market in Asia... including one of my conga drum heads.

If it's a Republican saddle, it could simply deny that adverse weather ever happens.
