1982 Schwinn Super Sport
I'm finally looking to sell my Schwinn Super Sport. I'm the original owner of this bicycle that was made in Japan in February 1981. This 15-speed bicycle has been meticulously maintained and is clean throughout. It has new tires, chain, saddle, and brake pads. It also has new foam handlebar wrap, the same kind that came with the bicycle when I bought it. This model has the chrome-moly 4130 frame with double butted top and down tubes and with the Suntour Cyclone derailleurs. I've had it inspected and tuned at my local pro bicycle shop.
Although it's a classic collectible, this is a durable and enjoyable bicycle that's ready to ride on the road. I'd very much appreciate our forum members' thoughts on what a reasonable value would be when posting on eBay.
Note: I wish I could post photos of this bicycle but this site tells me "You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites and photos after you have made 10 posts or more."

This is a 25" frame. I'm told by pro bike shop that this would fit a man with height range between 5'10" and 6'3". I'm 6'0" and it fits well.

I'm 5'10 1/2" and there is no way that I'd be comfy on that bike.

Even tho' this bike may be collectible, there are a lot of nice Schwinn Super Sports available. I think it is unrealistic for an e-Bay buyer to pay $250-$300 plus shipping. But you only need to find one.
Since your local market is not stated, a selling price is difficult. In Seattle, my guess would be $250. In Grand Junction, CO maybe $125, if you could find a buyer. My advice would be to put it on your local CL, Facebook Mkt, etc and ask $350 with 'price firm, serious buyers only' clearly stated. See if you get a bite. People often treat themselves to holiday gifts. You will get a measure of demand and possibly offers that will validate the value. If it does not sell locally, put it on e-Bay and try there.
note: I recently bought in Seattle a very collectible '71 Peugeot PX10, white w/ black lugs, in very excellent condition for $225. Your Schwinn has a following but lesser (negligible) 'collector value' on the Japanese models.

Nice bike. Thanks for sharing. While not quite collectible, I will say that this iteration of the Super Sport is a very capable tourer and does have some value. That you've kept it in good condition and is ready to ride with new consumables are pluses, also. Nice to have front and rear racks too. Don't know what the market in your area is like but around here, in-season, I'd start at $350 and wouldn't sell for less than $250. Good luck with the sale.

Tall bikes are usually less than say a 56-58cm frame . I have been lucky in the past selling tall bikes that I no longer ride( I take a 25" or 64cm frame). It takes longer and , yes , maybe lower price , but there are a few of us long legged cyclists around. That one is a beauty and well cared for as far as I can see. I would say $200 in this market would attract the right buyer. As was stated , in many areas , it is the wrong time of year to sell a bicycle but who knows...

Pretty sure we recently appraised another one just like this. I recall the local sellers group were in the $125-$175 range while the hold-out-for-that-one-buyer group were $250+.
Any Super Sports I see locally listed over $150 just sit there. I watched a very nice ‘86 sell 2 days ago on eBay as a local pickup for $125.
I’d probably try listing at $160 with the most flattering pics I could take. I’d settle for the first person to offer $150.

Nice setup for city and touring with both front and rear racks.
Baskets for city or pannier for touring.

It's definitely 25", as measured from top of hub to top of seat mount tube. That was the maximum size that Schwinn offered for this model at the time.

The problem with Schwinn bikes it that outside of Paramounts and some super early models, most are close to worthless to worthless and a half (can't even give them away). That means that bikes that are not worthless suffer greatly because of the mountain of worthlessness diminish the interest across the field of bike enthusiasts.
If I was shopping for one of these I know it is probably worth every bit of $150, and I also know that if I wait long enough I'll find one for less than $50 because people post old Schwinns all the time and to them that's what it is, and old Schwinn. This is most definitely a buyer's market.

I did measure again, from the center of the hub and to top of seat tube...it's definitely 25".
I have a copy of the original data sheet for the 1982 Super Sport. Only 21, 22, and 25" frames were made. For 1983, Schwinn added a 19".

Are we using the right sizing metrics?
To all who have been following this post: I fail to see the uproar over the apparent size of this bike. This 25" bike is actually smaller than on the current 58" Trek Domane SL 5 that I have. The top tube on the Schwinn bike is level, whereas the Trek's and many road bikes today have sloping top bar. When the Trek's seat is dropped to the lowest possible height, the measurement from center of hub to the bottom of the seat is actually 26" (compared to Schwinn's 25" when seat is dropped). So I'm saying we that maybe we shouldn't be comparing the old and new bikes in this way.

Too much confusing verbiage here. OP refers to the size measurement as from the center of the hub to the bottom of the seat. To most of us, the hub is the center of the wheel. Frame measurements are usually taken from the center of the bottom bracket (BB) to either the top (CTT) of the seat tube or from the center of the bottom bracket to the center of the top tube (CTC). Top tube measurements are (almost) always taken from the center of the seat tube to the center of the head tube.
