1985 Trek 720 - Winter Project - saved from hanging in the garage

A huge thank you to the Golden Boy who tipped me of this beauty on the Indy Craig's List.
The gentleman I bought it from said his son bought it in the '80's, rode it 200 miles, and it has hung in the basement or garage since.

It has been completely gone over - frame savered - everything greased, lubed and adjusted.
New consumables - tires, tubes, cables, rim tape, bar tape, brake hoods.

I cannot wait to ride this beauty!
It is somewhere between a 1/2 inch and an inch too tall for me - but I do just fine on the same size 520.

Cannot wait for Spring!!

Wow! That thing looks like a million bucks... but I'm guessing you got a better deal than that.

And it's my size

Very nice resto/rebuild, and good to see C&V members are saving the world from the drewers.

If it looks big for you, just tell them it's a French fit.

It looks amazing. A shame for the origin owner to only put 200 miles on it, but that makes it a nice new bike for you.

That's a beauty! Would make good friends with my '85 470. I'd love to find an older Trek tourer.

if they're the original tires, they're Trek-branded National tires from Japan.

A real touring bike, with cantilever brakes, barcons, half-step-plus-granny gearing, rack eyelets, relaxed geometry, and mudguard clearance. Very nice!

Thanks for the nice comments.
I am excited to get the bike out on a sunny, clear day.

The tires are Panaracer Pasella PT's. I put a Brooks Tool Bag to match the saddle and bar tape. If it fits, it gets fenders and a frame pump. Then we're
ready for touring! Just need a trip at that point. Maybe somewhere in Southern Ohio. Maybe the U.P.

Always makes my day to see a vintage tourer of this quality surface and know another one survived the perils of the past 30 years. Great find!

The only reason that bike stayed on the Craigslist as long as it did was because the poster said it was a "760 Special" or something like that because the "700 Series" decal was a little rubbed off.

Not so much mudguard clearance with 27s. Maybe someday I'll go to 700C.

This is a great bike- you're super lucky to have a beautiful and awe-inspiringly wonderful bike. Mine has become my favorite everyday/everywhere rider.

Congratulations! It looks great!

Fantastic find, beautiful!

I'm always looking for a 24" 720, which is already on the comfortable-but-large side for me. Is that a 25.5"?
