Noisy valve stem on carbon wheels

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Since we're in Taiwan, we had plenty of opportunities to test them in the rain but we are seriously lacking in snow...;-) We do, however, have some pretty intense tropical sun. I used to use tape, too but got tired of replacing it when the adhesives started to 'melt' and the tape would ultimately let go. That's where the idea for the Valvinator came from.

Keep in mind that we were sponsoring and I was running a team at that time, so we are talking about roughly 20 sets of wheels at the same time. Checking/replacing tape every week started to get annoying. As they say, annoyance is the mother of invention.

They are made from the same material/adhesives as decals that come on rims (all the flashy branding and flames, for example); They won't let go.

FYI-We don't even make them anymore. We used to sell them for $1.99 but with the cost of shipping, it made them far too expensive as a stand-alone item. It was fine if you added them in with another purchase but ordered by themselves it was ridiculously expensive. I was honestly surprised to see that Bikeman still had some.

Ye gods no. They look alright on box section rims, but no modern bike comes with those anymore.

Yeah, but at least those rims come with little profiled spacers, and I haven't seen a tubeless valve not trying to hide in black. A valve nut on a modern rim without the spacer looks goofy AF.

Silca valve extenders or small piece of electrical tape with a hole to insert and restrain the valve

That said, a toothpick also works pretty well. Stick the end in there and break it off.
Stick a toothpick inside the valve hole ? I really hope you're kidding !

no. what did you think I meant?

toothpick in RIM hole alongside the stem. In most carbon wheels that‘a no where near the tube. You wind up with 1-3mm long wood sliver that stops the stem from moving and is about the thickness of the carbon layup. I’ve probably got well over 10,000 miles on wheels doing it this way.

Another zombie thread brought back by a newbie. Why does this happen so often?

I see what you mean, makes sense. But my wheels have no access hole along the bedding, so there's a good chance I would end up with a toothpick rattling noise inside the rim instead

Isn't the point of a forum ? To ask questions and provide answers for generations to come ?

Yes, but the question is why are so many threads brought back from dormancy by people new to the forum?

Why are forum regulars always so put off by someone continuing an old conversation if it's relevant to them?

It seem half the time they're telling new people to search rather than start a new thread for a topic that's been discussed many times before, and the other half they're complaining about reviving old threads.

A novel idea would be to just ignore threads you don't want to participate in rather than joining in just to complain about how/what others want to discuss.

And on the actual topic: I use the nuts on my threaded valve stems, on my carbon wheels and don't worry about what anyone else thinks about it. Yep I use valve stem caps too.... I trust the engineers who design products over than those who do stuff to look cool because others told them its the way...

It’s just a simple question. Don’t get your panties in a bunch.

Tubes do come with silicone or rubber o-rings, but painters tape or electrical tape
