KMC Quick Link on Campagnolo 11spd Chain?
I grabbed a Quick Link yesterday with the idea of putting it on my SR 11spd chain.
Anyone try this yet? Results?

Is it an 11spd? I heard rumors that the early 11spd ones had issues. I've run the 10spd ones for several years without issue but I am going back to the campy pin when I install a new chain tonight.

I spoke with a friend at KMC and he says it should be no problem. I've used them on 10spd in the past and it was fine but since there is only 11spd Campagnolo in the field at the moment I was looking for real world results.

That is good to hear. I have no evidence of there being issues so I am strictly calling what I heard rumors. I just removed my 10spd quick link and it looks pretty decent for the miles and riding conditions. If the 11spd is as good I say throw it on.

the 41 is helpless when BDOP starts asking for help...soon, PCAD will start creating informative posts, and slim will stay on topic when someone asks about which carbon or aluminum bike to buy...maybe.

I use the KMC 11 Link on a KMC 11 chain and have reused it after a good drive train cleaning. They do make it pretty difficult to remove by hand though since it clicks into place. There is an $11 KMC tool for removing it which makes it easier...it's not like the SRAM Power Link that just uses pressure to stay in place and can easily be undone by hand.
Anybody know where to get the KMC Missing Link removal tool? Is it applicable to both 10s and 11s?
Thanks

I wasn't aware that the quick link was a one-time only link. I was under the impression that it was reusable. Is this not the case? What does KMC say?

Maybe be just me, but I just see these things as an extra step and an extra point of failure. Best of luck.

i understood them to be reuseable and I have certainly used them multiple times for chain cleaning.

I saw a neat trick somewhere to undo the links. place the link on the large chainring about 3 o'clock, but wrap the chain so there's an extra link on the chainring, causing the quick-link to stick out like a sideways 'V'. Then tap the link with something hard towards the chainring to pop it open.
I've reused & abused 10s KMC links with 0 problems since I started using them 5 years ago. I would feel comfortable trying the 11s if I was running 11s. What's the difference really ? Same thing as 10s, just a tiny bit narrower.

I just installed a new Campy chain, and used the Campy tool and pin. Works great, but now that I have to clean the chain, I should get myself a few of those KMC links. Problem is, once you go quick link, you can't go back, since you shorten the chain by a link to install the quick link.

Direct from KMC, and yeah...works for both. Pretty much thin pliers shaped for a chain.

They even make a "Closer" but tugging either side is easy enough to lock it in place for me.

As to re-installation...yeah...I can handle that generally without too many expletives...unlike removal
A tip for you guys...and no doubt those that have played with the Missing Link know this...best to place the Missing link on the top between cassette and chainring and use the pedal to 'snap' the Missing link into place...works pretty well...and generally hear an audible click when seated.
PS: As mentioned I reuse my Missing Links for 10s but rarely take the chain off. I side with the guys that just clean the chain on the bike...me too.
I typically will take the chain off the bike only in the winter for PM..service the BB, headset etc.

Glad to help! I bought one of those too, along with 6 Missing Links.
