Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Easy quiz

I met some friends for a 60 mile breakfast ride this morning. There were 7 bikes. 5 Waterfords, 1 Colnago and,of course, 1 Trek.
Tell me the average age of the riders and the average speed of the ride. This should be easy based on the bikes!

IDK but the way these usually go is the guy on the cheapest bike was the fastest and they slowed down from there as bike price went up.

Do I get a cookie ?

Trick question. Dudes on the Waterfords all used to race on Paramounts and still race Masters.

I'm sure the guy on the Trek is the one who was concerned about average speed.

Since this is the 41 and you are in flat Iowa why was the Trek sandbagging so much?

That's funny because I'm 47yo and yesterday I went on a 40-mile ride and my average was exactly 17.2 mph. I guess this is why I don't go on group rides!
