Cinelli stem and bars "Tour of Britain"
Hello there,
Could anyone share information on this stem and bars from Cinelli? I can't find any info on date of manufacture. or the meaning of the "Tour of Britain" model bars.

I think he means any lettering on the bars to the right of the stem—opposite the Tour of Britain lettering.

Well H**Y CRAP, no expert and never seen these before but they may be some of the rarest, hard to believe Cinelli ever stamped "BRITAIN" on any of their bars.
Can't really tell for sure, are they steel or alloy, look to be alloy but another set on Google were steel.
Again fantastic score, we need good pics of the whole bike as well.

Cinelli steel bars had the bulge in the clamping area like these. Aluminum had a second piece of aluminum, a shim, wrapped around the clamping area. However I have an early aluminum bar that has the bulge. Time for the magnet test.

Hello,
The bike was hand-made by Gilles Bertrand, of Hull and Gatineau, Quebec. I think it was made sometime in 1987. I reached out to Velozophie, in Gatineau, who have acquired the Bertrand brand. They said they could forward some photos and an email I wrote to M. Bertrand. I am hoping to hear back from him some day.
It measures 61cm, and there are many interesting things about it. The tape on the bars is from Gilles, I am almost certain. The main mystery to me was the Tour of Britain bars, and I think we have solved that, well enough.
Thank you everyone, for your help and for your interest in the bike. Very best wishes to all.

Can't quite tell, is the 'of' in Tour Of Britain misprinted and appears twice? That's making an already rare component even rarer!

As I said above, I am hoping to speak to M. Bertrand, and if he can remember the stem and bars, that would help me decide what to do, I am sure I would enjoy riding the bike with 1987 Cinelli stem and bars.

Hello again,
Is anyone familiar with the late 50's early 60's Record cranksets?
I am wanting to replace the inner chainring to a smaller size. This bike has a 51/48 setup, which is not the most useful for city riding. Is it a criterium idea?
While looking for a replacement, I had to determine exactly what the existing one was, and this is what I found.

Here are some photos of what is on the bike. (Please excuse the fuzzy photos. My iphone is about the same vintage as this bike.)
Is this another very old part on this bike made in 1987? Similar in age to the stem and bars? I do see the raised area around the pedal hole.

That looks to be a 144 BCD crank to me. There is a 41 tooth chain ring that fits it but they are harder to find than the standard 42 tooth inner ring. TA made the 41 as well as others , I have a few on my bikes . The year of your crankset should be stamped next to the Strada , if not it is earlier than 1973 <3> , 1974 <4> and so on. If the # is in a circle then 80’s. Some of the very early cranks were 151BCD as far as I know. Joe

It is all very interesting. There is nothing but "Strada 170" stamped on the cranks.
