Florida schedule is basically similar to past years, with a new 1-week race on calendar in March (good vaca for northerners)
Will start season in Jan, with best intentions of consistent racing thru Masters Nats in May and Elite Nats in summer (I'm 51 and have never been to Masters Nats a single time in all my years)

i don't think most of the NEBRA races are up yet, but my main spring goals aren't until may: sunapee, battenkill, ksr. actually, i hope battenkill isn't the same day as sunapee, that would be dumb.

I'm winging this year and currently on the Jan Ullrich plan, trying to not eat everything in sight.
Apparently fat is good for the peak power though!

No real goals until April, when I've got Quabbin (USAC again at last) and Rasputitsa (a gravel race). Things really get going in late May with KSR, and I'll be hitting as many road races as I can between then and mid-late July. Harvard, Purgatory and Hilltowns are definitely on the list. I'll be throwing in as many other regional RRs as I can manage. On my list I also have Bear Mountain, Bristol Mountain, Capital Region, Sunapee, Myles Standish and Blue Hills - hopefully that last one will be a road race again, since the old course is four miles from my house. As for cries, Wells Ave and Longsjo for sure, everything else is a question mark. I don't know that I'll manage to get to all of those races, I am riding a relatively light road season in favor of cyclocross. I'll do probably 15 or so races during the road season and shut it down in late July. August is tuning up for cyclocross, with Vermont Overland GP as a final warm-up for CX.

For all the hoopla about USAC costs, the insurance is pretty cheap. It costs more to insure the motos than the riders in a typical road race.

Mike Norton seems to be moving more of his races back into USAC, at least he said he was going to make his cyclocross races USAC for 2016 as well. Whether that will translate into better organization is questionable, but it makes me happy that, on the off chance that I'm able to do well at Quabbin, I can put that toward upgrading categories. And if I don't place highly enough to get points, well, it's a beautiful race course and I'm glad the racer insurance is cheap.

I stopped doing them a couple of years ago to focus on track events such as 500, pursuit, team pursuit and team sprint as well as road TTs. I get my group riding and hard efforts with others at structured track sessions.

Sadly, I know something about this. USAC's race insurance is secondary insurance (one's primary health insurance, if any, pays first), and it's capped, so they don't have much exposure even when they do have a liability...and so far, even with these limitations, the phrase "squeezing blood from a turnip" comes to mind. They promptly paid one very small claim and have so far just ignored all of the rest.

I also know firsthand about K&K (USAC's 2015 carrier) claims. They are secondary insurance only if you have primary insurance. If you don't, they become primary. For guys like us with good insurance plans, it's a minimal benefit since they don't pay deductibles. If you are on a high deductible health plan, K&K will not pay your deductible. They will pay whatever your plan does not pay, which are measured against their own schedule of R&C (reasonable and customary) charges. So if your plan pays 90%, they will pay the 10%, against R&C. If your carrier and K&K agree on the R&C, then you get a check for 10%. Every single claim must be submitted. Turnaround time is measured in weeks.
For my wreck in 2015, they paid me a little under a grand.

In 2010 I got about a grand from them, but I had really bad insurance. They've since changed it some. Plus I'm in my wife's insurance. In 2012 when I broke my elbow I didn't get much of anything.

Wait what? I have ER and PT bills from crashing this year. I'm only out of pocket for the deductible but I could have gotten reimbursed for that?

This is good information, thank you for sharing it. I wish I had read up on the USAC coverage when I broke my wrist a few years back.

We're sort of polluting this thread, but to close the tangent. If you ever have an injury at a race that will require medical assistance, if you are able, let the Chief Referee know immediately. They will need to fill out an occurrence report. The USAC insurance process starts with this report. You won't get to file a claim without one.

Ohio Calendar is starting to form, and I see some of the early road races. One of the first ones looks like a fairly flat course compared to the rest and I think, hmm maybe I will actually do a road race this year.
Then I realize its almost 3.5 hours away. And starts at 10am.
I guess I wont be doing it after all.
