Shimano sandals are not really anything like my Torbal soled Shimano mtb-shoes. The sandals are pretty soft so I can feel the cleat pretty well when putting more pressure on the pedals.

That hasn't been an issue for me though. Never had any foot issues even if the sole is on the softer side.

It's probably a good idea to pair them with SPD-pedals with a wideish platform supporting the shoes so no eggbeaters.
