Great post and thanks again for sharing. This article remembered back of my racing dayswhen I rode a CAAD4, CAAD5 and CAAD optimo7, the finish of the welds was much better than Colnago, Bianchi and many other italian brands, exception made of the Daccordi Fly,De Rosa in Columbus Altec, Willier Mortirolo Scandium, Basso Zer, Vetta Strada and Tomasinni in Altec. The Alcoa Alcalyte was one of the best aluminiums tubing which was also used by Giant but comfort was average compared to a high end steel frame, yet were the CAAD nervous and fast, just ask Mario Cippollini from Saeco Estro Team and Flying Tinker Juarez as well as Missy Giove from the Volvo Canondale MTB team

The Cannondale area rep admitted to the guys in our shop that the patterned custom paint was a desperation move, to camouflage the tube distortions that were a side-effect of their early heat treatment procedure. Then, after they'd sorted out the heat treatment, they started charging more for the custom striping. It's a feature, not a bug!

With all due respect to everyone in Italy, I don't think you have to be a jet-fueled genius to figure bicycles out.

That was my first true "road" bike. Still have it and road it a few years ago. I have no idea how I road that up hill or more than 2 hours.
