Removing paint from stems and handlebars
Anybody have any luck removing logos from Chinese made stems and handlebars? I’d like to remove the white logos without messing up the black finish of the parts.

Have some ENVE vinyl wrap printed. Pinarello for the frame.

Acetone. Nail polish remover if you can't find that.

Acetone might take it off, any scuffing or harsher chemicals might compromise the anodizing

Might be easier to put some paint over the offending decals.

Thanks for the replies .
I know it’s a silly question but it’s getting hard to find standard stems and this is just a budget build on a old 1993 rockhopper I found. I’ll try some acetone. Painting wouldn’t be worth the effort and probably wouldn’t result in the look or durability I would want but who knows.

I've used it to do exactly what you're wanting to do.
It also works to Install or remove then re-install hand grips... i run an old dull screwdriver under the grip then shoot some CRC in and quickly pull the tool out and TWIST... they slip right off.... to install, clean the bar with some on a rag then shoot some in the grip... slip the grip on and wait a half hour or so.. the grip acts like it was glued on!
cleaning smudges of who-knows-what off frames.
cleaning sticker goop off anything.
etc.....
Acetone will remove paint in general.

I used a Sharpie to blank out the component's writing on this bike. It wears off on occasion, so I just reapply. Keeps it from being permanent in case I want to sell the components. It also covers any scratches.

I would just leave it, if you were too economic to buy known quantities with logos you like why waste more time and money trying to covert these? Just leave as is or if you are super desperate use a Shoupie brand permanent marker and just color in the lines.

Maybe he liked something else about the components besides their price? If he uses the right cleaner, it'll take five minutes to remove everything. While I prefer logos, I see nothing wrong with trying to remove lettering you don't like. I don't like shortcuts like using Sharpies, which almost never looks good.
