The Kona Project

Little preamble to where this is headed. In the process of closing the deal on a Tom Teesedale built 1993 Kona Hot frame and fork(not original) P2 thread-less. I have also just taken possession of a 1996 Kona Kilauea with Columbus tubes that may serve as a parts donor for the Hot. This will probably taken a bunch of twists and turns as the build progresses. As always your input and guidance is appreciated and relied upon to get me on the right track. My goal is to get the Hot reasonably close to catalogue spec and the Kilauea into a great 1x10? Cruiser. Now some pics of the Kilauea

Keep the Kilaeua build, the Columbus Cyber was a high grade tubing used in MTB frames much better than the tubing used in the Kona Hot frames.

I had a 95 Kilauea in white; it was my favorite bike I’ve ever owned hands down. Wish I’d never sold it…

Echo what was said before; keep the Kilauea build but mod the other like you were Victor Frankenstein!

That's a nice Kilauea; it'd be interesting to see how a Columbus frame will ride compared to a Prestige frame.

I have a Hot, but its a boring grey; its built up with 2x10 XT and thumbies.

FWIW, you can flip the dog collar cable guide with a rear derailleur barrel adjuster to run V brakes:

Swapped the fork out for threadless one and swapped headset for the sealed bearing Race Face unit. Definitely need different stem as this is too long but like where its headed
