Haven't ridden this one since December 1, 2016, when I hit black ice on the morning commute. Didn't end well. Anyway, I've had this one for 25 years, it was pretty abused, so it got a refresh with M950 XTR. Other goodies include a King no-logo headset, long Syncros post and M747 pedals. The fork is the original Judy SL with ti bolt kit that I refreshed with a SRP spring kit. Now I guess I've got to ride it again.

This is a moke up of my Peugeot Mojave Desert which i fit with a complete Lx Deore black groupset : hubs, crankset, derailleurs, brakes, shifters, head set. I only need a brand new bottom bracket and decent tires, and it will be back to the woods.

First shakedown ride for the 1995 GT Pantera. Pretty awesome rigid ride. STX group. Had to change the stem from the original GT flat stem. Back in the day I didn't mind being laid out, but with age it feels just a little better sitting up.

I keep thinking I may have posted this here, but maybe it was when I first got it.
Anyway, here it is cleaned up - 1985 Bianchi Grizzly. It's a nice, smooth riding bike, with that long wheelbase :~)
And the photo doesn't do justice to the candy apple "gelato" paint job.
All the original Suntour and DiaCompe components were in good shape, but I did re-build the wheels - 4 cross pattern even!

That looks like my 1999 ZigguRatRod that I snagged for a Benjamin. Same colors.
Mine was rode hard and put away wet so I replaced a bunch but have a bunch to go.

Yes, I have mountain king tires on my 1997 Kona Kilaeua and on my 1995 Scapin and race king tires on my 1999 6700 SLR and on my 2006 6500 SLR definitely some of the best MTB tires I have had. The Cross King are very good tires for any kind of trails.

Here's a 1989 Rockhopper Comp I just picked up. Like many of you I need another bike like I need more holes in my head, but had to do it as it is an exact duplicate of my first mountain bike in both size (19.5") and the blue and ivory paint scheme (I believe the other option in '89 was all yellow). As far as I can tell it's bone stock except for the tires which I'll probably replace with some 2.1 Billy Bonkers. Other than that, I plan on keeping it stock as much as possible. You don't see many of these where the graphics/decals aren't falling apart, so I'm very happy with the overall condition. There are a few small scratches in a few places, but I have some Toyota Voodoo Blue paint on the way that I think will match up pretty well. I haven't found any scratches on the Ivory paint so that will save me some trouble. The discoloration at the top of the fork is just some old dried grease presumably from the headset so that should clean up pretty easily.

Those are rock solid bikes and good choice. A friend of mine upgraded his a mix of XTR 970/980, mavic crossmax tubeless wheels, easton carbon bar, flite carbon saddle and specialized mtb tires , it was a blast to ride. He prefers it to his modern stumpjumper.

That sounds like a very cool bike, I'd love to see it. I'm especially intrigued by the tubeless wheels. I guess I hadn't really looked into it, but didn't realize you could get tubeless wheels sized for these vintage mountain bikes.

Since the '89 is more of a nostalgia bike for me, I'd like to stay close to the spirit of the original. I also have this '91 Comp that I'm more willing to resto-mod as it doesn't have the same sentimental value to me, but is nevertheless a very nice bike (I've already shown this one here a while ago). I have all the components for a modern cockpit with threadless stem, but haven't installed them yet. I will even consider a modern 1x drivetrain and tubeless wheels for it.

I never drink it by itself -- it's part of a concoction I make to get through these long N. Dakota winters. 1 shot of vodka over ice, the remainder of a pint glass is 2/3 grapefruit juice and 1/3 diet Squirt. So yeah, I keep a 12 pack of Dt. Squirt in stock at all times. Your mileage may vary.

The smaller one is what started it, I bought it new in 1988. I got it after a trip to Colorado where I had decided my previous bike was too big. Then I never rode in the mountains again, and eventually decided this bike was too small. A couple years ago I found one the next size up. Looked at it with rose colored glasses, spent WAY too much for it, and when I finished rebuilding it I decided it was too big. Now it's a six speed crusier with a bent seat stay and in need of a new bottom bracket...

The original has seen a few different configurations too, but I put it back into MTB form in it's last renovation.

Hey DesmoDog, very cool that you have two of them -- they look like '88s with the chainstay mount rear brakes. I swear the blue paint on the '88s is a little darker than the '89s.

I actually have two '89s -- this one I just bought, and I still have the frame and some parts for the '89 I bought new. It got ridden in anger off-road a lot when I was still a young buck so it's pretty beat up, but I do have a notion to restore it at some point. I've already acquired a decal set for it (found one this month from a British seller on ebay after thinking no one made them in this style), and would probably have it professionally painted by one of the respected frame painters out there, but for now, I'll just play with the complete original I just picked up.
