Raleigh Racing USA

I recently acquired this bike that is too tall for me to ride. I am wondering about a value for it as either complete or as a frame & fork. TIA

Raleigh as it came to me

I am reading 62cm CTC

Suntour cyclone drive train

Sakae bars and black annodized stem

555 tubing set

2 X 7 gear set up. Araya 700c clincher wheels

I'm think about $60-80 on the frame w/headset.

All together, after you do your best, eh, $225-250.

I'm not really sure anymore, my sells of comparable have been very sluggish.

Mr. 66,
Thanks, I was guessing somewhere in that range. I guess I can offer it up here in the forums and see what shakes out. Smiles, MH

As a comparison, I gave $125 for mine about two years ago, same year and model but smaller frame. My paint was better, and it was pretty much original with the Raleigh handlebars, Suntour derailleurs and down-tube shifters. Not quite survivor condition, but close. I think the guy I bought it from was asking $175. I looked at one that recently sold on eBay about the time I bought mine and if I recall, it sold for something around $750 which I thought was ludicrous.

That’s an ‘84 Competition and a great bike. The value depends on the condition of the chrome which looks a little rough in the pics. Rims, mechs, cranks and stem look original. Stem shifters are definitely not original.

I’d install a saddle, downtube shifters and fresh bar tape. See if Simichrome can clean up the pock marks. If it cleans up good, I think it could bring $300 +/- $25 although it can be difficult to tell anymore. Frameset probably around $100 if the chrome cleans up.

I have an earlier version of this with 27" wheels, DT shifters, 555 tubing and red, white and blue, all cleaned up and listed on MP for $250 and it's been sitting for awhile.

Yours looks to be a 1985 Team USA which is several rungs below OP's subject 1984 Competition. Your Team is in fine shape though and $250 doesn't seem unreasonable given the good condition. GLWS.

That Competition is all about how well the chrome cleans up (and losing those awful stem shifters).
