Bike Nashbar pulling a fast one????
Ok this is weird (or maybe I am).
8 or 9 days ago Bike Nashbar had a 29er, the K@ Zed (YB-K2Z29) on a 2 day sale for $299. It has been on their website for $329 FOR MONTHS! I decide to wait since Labor is coming up and BikeNashbar usually offers some good discounts. So I go in yesterday and the price is now $399 (not a typo).
I call Bike Nashbar and the price is indeed $399. When I tell the call taker the price was just $299 and it is usually $329 they have no answer. When I suggest that this is a bait and switch before the Labor day sales, she jumps in and says "oh, the print catalog has it for $349 and we will honor that price????"
WTF.
Has anyone had this experience?

I find that the most convenient part of shopping... when the price is too high I don't buy stuff. When they put it on sale I don't compare the sale price with the regular price, I compare it with what I'm willing to pay & what I'd have to pay elsewhere. Give it a try!

Wait, what? A company is pricing things however they see fit? You waited too long and they raised the price and you are complaining? If you like the price, buy it, if not, don't. They even offered you another $50 off the new price. I don't see any problem.

Nashbar elected to raise the price they're asking for the item. They're free to ask whatever they want for the bike, regardless what they asked for the bike yesterday.
You're free to accept or reject it.
They had a sale; you were waiting for a better sale; you took a risk that the price would go up not down; you lost.

That was indeed a fast one. Not fast enough for you though. Seriously though that is the oldest retail trick in the book.

Price reflects stock and current demand. Amazon prices change daily on thousands of items. Not a bait and switch. Nasbar is great and be happy they mentioned the $350 printed price. Overall they are a great company.

I wanted to buy some stuff, waited too long, and saw the price go up. Sometimes you snooze, you loose.

Prices do go up and down at Nashbar. When they're up on an item you want, you just have to wait. They'll go down again. They've got some tights I like that are $50 now. But they're often $20 and I've bought them as low as $16. I'll wait and odds are they'll be $20 again at some point in the future. If not, too bad for me. But I see nothing unethical in their pricing.

Cycling prices change a lot. Everything from currency fluctuations, oil prices (big issue now with less corn and threat of hurricane impact), to how fast 2012 models clear the floors and 2013 are available. When you see a sale and it's something you like, jump on it before it's gone (or goes up)

I bought my Roubaix Expert in MAY for the exact same price that my LBS has the bike on 'blow out' pricing right now at end of season.
In May I asked what was the absolute best price they can give and I got it (just over $500 off MSRP) now they have on sale for $2999.99 so really is isn't a sale because all you had to do is ask.
I also got a bike 'on sale' at my other LBS from $2100 to $1800 and I asked what the lowest they could go was and got it for $1600.
Bike prices are what they can sell it for. I'm sure others paid more at those same shops then I did (and maybe some got them even cheaper!)

I take it you haven't bought online much. The prices fluctuate constantly which means they can also go up.
I didn't bother to look at the bike you're considering, but the price will almost certainly drop right back down after awhile (i.e. after it's been at the higher number long enough to comply with laws regarding when something can be said to be on sale). Then they'll drop it and scream in all bold print that you can get it for 1/3 off.
It's kind of like jewelry -- nobody pays "regular" prices. Rather, the idea is to get everyone wound up into believing they got a good deal when the stuff is on "sale." The main time you're actually getting a good deal is when things are being closed out in which case availability is poor.

Then ask her why her price keeps...Oh wait that's way over the line. Sorry. Nevermind. Nothing to see here.

Does anyone else have one of those furniture stores that has a big "Everything must go. Going out of Business." sale every other month?

I'm just shocked there are 29ers for $299 (or $399 for that matter). I'm even more shocked that somebody would wait it out at $299 to see if it goes lower.
