Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My ex bought a bread making machine. She had no experience baking bread and the bread from that machine was wonderful. She tried all kinds of variations but my favorite was coffee bread.
Plus, you set it up to be ready when you wake up so you can smell it baking in the morning.

How do bread machines work to achieve proper rising?

I used a hybrid method where I put the ingredients in the machine to mix and knead, then put in a bread pan to rise and bake. It generally rose about half way and that was it. Not a complete failure, but not great.

I didn't like the shape of the loaf from the machine, plus it's not very big.

I honestly wondered that. I was trying to make it make sense as a "seconds" mark but then it still didn't really make sense.

We have a bread machine and it works great.

Your method sounds like too much work.

Either do it all the old fashioned way (which also works but time consuming), or load bread machine, set it….AND FORGET IT!!

I should add that our reliable bread machine is about 20 years old. We actually bought it for my parents, but they gave it back after a few years’ use when my mom concluded she was gluten intolerant.

I worked all afternoon on the septic replacement project. Got the black water and grey water lines separated and going their separate ways, and the inlet from the house connected. When we built the house we made separate grey and black water lines, leaving the house. Now all that’s left is back filling and some detail work. I hope to finish tomorrow. Well maybe not all the backfilling. There is quite a bit to do, but I will get the pipes buried.anyway.

A Basque Cheesecake I baked earlier this year. It’s not burnt. It’s supposed to look that way.

I do not. Like most pies, many of them are OK. But if you're going to eat something that's nutritionally garbage, why not make it something that's good? Cookies, cake, chocolate, etc.

Minimal extra work. Just timing the oven and washing one extra pan afterwards.

Look at the little bubble/dialog icon at the top of your screen on the app.

Treated myself to black pudding and bacon for breakfast.

Then went for a nice ride. Well the first half was great. The headwind home with only one gear, not so much.

I think I need a new cold weather cycling Jacket. The current one is over 10 years old and it’s blue, which is a fine color but I think I want a bright yellow one for better visibility.

I am guessing all the cool kids choose a Castelli Perfetto jacket, but they go for $289. Any suggestions for a thrifty cyclist? Or should I splurge since it’s a once-a-decade purchase?
