Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I also think we had to live in starter homes with low end cars and lower expectations. Now kids first homes and cars (until recently) were the same as what we had after working 30 or more years. Partially due to easier credit, lower interest rates and longer tem loans. 7 years for a car? 30 year mortgage?

Yeah, come to think of it, I noticed that the last time I did a pace bot ride. I STILL dropped it on climbs and had to watch for it catching up on descents so it wouldn't just fly by. But it's a LITTLE better.

Well, you know, if a gap has been growing more or less steadily, whatever it is now is likely to be unprecedented. Just saying...

As mentioned, you do need to figure out what you want for the newly implanted lens, in terms of near or far focus.

The guy who lived across the street from me got so rich doing these surgeries, that he left my neighborhood, so he could buy a more expensive, bigger house.
I got a bi focal lens. Only in the left. The right remains undone.

Same, and agreed.

It seems like there's a balance point there. If you add too much to the bot on climbs, you're going to shell people who are working near their limit on the flats, or have a hard time recovering after increased efforts. IMO, the adjustments they have made seem reasonable.

Yeah. Gotta say, though, that time I did did a pace bot ride at 1.8 w/kg as a recovery ride, I'd end up noodling up climbs just so it could catch up.

Especially people who only remember the last couple decades of very low inflation, and especially the years between 2008 and 2020 where we we consistently below the 2% Fed target rate, not to mention the years where interest rates were stuck at the Zero Lower Bound. If you'd told me in 1982 that I'd have a 30 year fixed mortgage at <3% I'd have told you you were nuts.

Is the GF now a Mrs. BH or is that too 1980's? Sorry to hear of crash. Smashed hip sounds bad, but good you're running. I would only do that immediately after robbing a convenience store.

Unsure on length of visit, but its nice to chat, and frankly be remembered. I never picked up a cycling community after moving, and insane work hours cramped riding. Then motorcycles altered riding. Still have all the bikes though, and built up another after moving. A nice Reynolds 725 Genesis Equilibrium with Campy Athena. Haven't ridden it much but its got the modern vintage flair that I like.

Another problem is that people seem to believe that when inflation eases, prices should decline to pre-inflation levels, preferably after they’ve locked in a fat COLA!

Yep. I was talking about inflation and deflation with a friend, who said he'd like to see some deflation. I pointed out that it would also mean wages go down. He didn't like that idea.

All the people saying, "A dollar ain't worth what it used to be!" somehow ignore that their work yields a lot more dollars, too.

from my understanding hyperinflation means your country is economically well up **** creek without a paddle and the central bank will print larger and larger value banknotes just so you can buy a loaf of bread. I may be wrong. Also not being a 'merikan I'm insulated from a lot of crazy media about 'merika.
