Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Honestly, I feel better at 66 than I did at 60, but a big part of that is that I'm a lot more active, and a bit lighter. If I had either been more active at 60, or were less active now, I'd probably have felt a decline.

I intend to try 70 next month. I've been thinking about a birthday ride with a bunch of climbing, seems like the thing to do. There is a loop that I could start from home and get 7K feet in about 75 miles but I haven't done that route in 2 years. Could be race cars on part of the route. Or, could be that I don't care enough anymore.

Speaking of old dudes, two of the guys on our TTT training session this morning are 55+ athletes. And they're still able to tick away 29 MPH laps with 35+ whipper-snappers like myself.

This year we will feature two four-man teams at SCNCA champs, one in 170+ combined age (my division), and one team at whatever the next level of boomer age is (I think 190+). Mean age of our rides is in mid to low 40's and they're still hitting hard.

Then comes 72. All set to get riding again after winter, but misjudged some stairs last week: landed on my left leg after an off-balance two-foot drop. Stupid. Pretty sure either my MCL or medial meniscus is buggered. Hope whatever it is, it's not fubar. Doc will (hopefully) tell me tomorrow.

Ugh. Hope you can still ride. It's easier than walking.

Thanks! Yep, that's my hope as well. 'Incident' was back on the 18th, and the knee is slightly better yesterday/today -- moving a bit more freely, so I'm hoping nothing requiring surgery. Family clinic here (my university) is directly plugged into a major sports medicine/physio centre, so rehab is nearby if needed -- two-minute hobble from my office!

I’ve got a 25 year old Ovation sitting in my climate controlled storage unit as well as an ESP that’s probably 22. The ESP was a joy to play and sounded great- especially for the metal and punk bands I was playing in at the time. Haven’t touched either in a decade at least.

That sucks. Hope you get a good prognosis from the doc and heal quickly.

P.S. My 73rd is coming up in a couple months.
