2005 Specialized Hardrock Sport derailleur hanger

An acquaintance just sent me these photos of her woman's Hardrock. She said that after shifting at the top of a hill (possibly badly), this happened going down.

Looks to me like the hanger, but I thought they were steel and bendable, but this just snapped. Is it cast aluminum ?

Is this part still available (in Canada) ?

Thanks.

Thanks dedhed. Looks like it won't be a problem for a lbs to fix this. Don't know if the derailleur is ok, but even then it's not expensive.

be aware that there's an Ebay seller selling badly shaped versions of the Wheels #12 hanger... orpay-39 is the seller's name on Ebay.

It took about an hour to reshape the front and top of the hanger to fit, and the lower hole was a bit out of place too.

to his credit, he did refund immediately.. i was just happy that it was for my Specialized Enduro, and not a customer bike.

I didn't realize that derailleur hangers were a business onto themselves. Looks like Pilo makes what is needed and is available locally.

Consider it a consumable, buy a spare for the next time it's needed.

Imagine if every PC used different incompatible mice. That’s how much of a business unto itself it is.

And they are designed to snap. I think if they were to just bend (towards the spokes for example) it’s probably more dangerous.

Pretty much every steel frame dropout hanger just bends.

Ah! Thanks for the correction. Only had two go and they both snapped. Having said that above, one which snapped didn't just leave the mech hanging, it enjoyed a trip around the wheel inside the chain stay.

Might be the angle of the picture, but the q-release looks bent....
