New DiNotte Taillight - 300 Lumens!

https://www.dinottelighting.com/LED_b...-taillight.htm

Similar to a dual 140L setup, but with a much-improved mounting system.

According to their email:

"We only have limited quantities of the headlight and taillights, until we get our next run of metal which is due shortly, so the product availability is on a first come, first served basis. Because it is new, orders might take an extra 2-3 days to ship, but if it's on the store, it is available."

Beat me to it.

The mounting options are exactly what was needed. The text mentions a rack mount, though I'm not seeing it. Maybe it's the smallest diameter tube mount instead of the bolt-on mount I was looking for.

I would have loved to see this form factor with just one LED. I'm not sure I want 300 lumens, and I definitely don't want to spend $270 on a taillight.

$270 for a taillight?!? No thanks. I use 2 superflashes - $38. Problem solved.

Yes, but can your taillights be seen from space?

Leds lights are cheaper, lighter and just as bright imo.

That's a lot of light. How does 300L compare to car taillights?

There are actually some aftermarket red 3W LED (similar to the LEDs used in the Dinottes) drop ins out there designed to replace standard incandescent car tail/brake lamps. The aftermarket LEDs are brighter from straight back but dimmer from the sides when installed in housings originally intended for use with an incandescent bulb. So in short the Dinotte 300L would be brighter than most car's BRAKE lights when viewed from the rear, plus it can flash to get even more attention.

As sweet as that setup looks, I would worry a bit about overheating...it doesn't look like there's much of a heat sink in the 400L. It would suck to have the thing catch on fire underneath your butt.

FWIW, I already have a 140L and 2 Superflash, so more lighting is unnecessary for now.

my 150 was getting complaints from motorists. So I assume it's plenty bright.

I hope this one doesn't have a ridiculous strobe mode to induce seizures. either solid on or slow 2sec on, 1sec off strobe.

According to their press release, the new model has the same flash modes as the 140L.

This model is supposed to be twice as bright as the previous generation and run longer on the same Li batteries the 140 used. The 140L was far brighter than any taillight I have seen and I expect this one to live up our expectations.

That said, some of the folks I ride with swear by it; some couldn't be bothered. knowing how bright this is, I feel "naked" riding without it.

Man that's pretty awesome...I kinda want it just for all the mounting options but that's a pretty steep price. Actually, looking at it again it seems like I can pick it up for $160 because I already have a few li-ion batteries and charger from my 600L. Hmmm...

Looks cool, however unless you are wanting to absolutely blind everyone behind you why pay the price? I have ridden with a few guys who have the 140L light, these things are already ridiculously bright! Most of them never even bother turning them on their high setting.

One thought here might be to use it as a HEADLIGHT. Red light does not ruin your night vision, and if you can get used to riding with it may work well. However, it is just a thought I had over a beer the other night and I have not tried it myself.

As an owner of the 140L tailight, I have to say that this particular Dinotte is way too bright and overkill for it's intended purpose...

Per their web site Dinotte have reduced the claimed output to only 240 Lumens. Still the brightest taillight I am aware of.

Any owners out there with experience using it yet?

Light in Motion dropped a new taillight for the 2010-11 winter riding season - rechargeable tailight, self contained, USB rechargeable.

Can you elaborate? What is a refractory lens, and why is that good?

I run a 140L on the back of my rack, and a PB Superflash on the back of my helmet. I have received a lot of positive comments from drivers "man I could see you a long way back - nice light setup". If I mounted this baby up, I think some of those positive comments might turn negative

For 300 bucks you could get a rear AND front supernova light and you wouldn't need to charge the batteries.

For less $$ you can get an Edelux and a B&M Seculite; although there's the initial investment in the generator wheel to consider.

I have the 400R and love it! Mounting is very solid and I'm very pleased with the light output. It would be too bright for a group ride, but it keeps the solo rider very visible in traffic. Battery life is good, I use the 2 cell battery on high/strobe and recharge it after about 6 hours. Search on the Electronics, Lighting, & Gadgets forums for more reviews.
