Double straps on the street? Good? Bad? Anything? I ride with brakes, but I recently found a great deal on some toshis and after hearing everyone rave about them, I am considering picking em up.

I just have a cheap pair of Somas, but I don't think I'll ever ride with a single strap setup again. After moving to doubles I feel that my feet are more secure in the pedals. Each strap applies force to a different part of the foot and leads to a nicer feel, in my opinion.

I have Toshis and I would probably call them the most reliable part of my bike.

I may order up some Soma doubles soon, the singles I got from them are great so the doubles must be greater. I want that snug feel when I ride. Do I have to get double gate clips as well or will the singles I have work with double straps?

I've had MKS doubles on my bike for a few months and they are really great. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that it takes a little longer to adjust if you wear different shoes a lot.

Are the All-City brand doubles any good? I wonder if they are just Soma doubles in disguise.

i love my toshis, but i find it so hard to believe that there aren't many options as good. i mean, how hard could it possibly be to make?

I just got All-City doubles and they are fine so far. Yes they seem to be exactly the same as the Somas. They obviously won't last as long as something premium like Toshis but I'm sure they are not garbage, as stated above.

Why would I want NJS stamped double straps for street riding anyway?

Get something like Soma or All-City doubles just to find out of you even like riding with them. If you like them, ride them out and eventually replace with Toshis down the line if you want.

I run a brake so I don't rely solely on my legs to stop.
I am going to pick up some Somas to start out, maybe when I start my track racing career I will think about some Toshis.

toshi, mks, kashimax if you have the money.
exustar if you are on a budget.
I am unfamiliar with cadence and sag straps.

avoid all-city/soma if you intend on putting some miles on 'em.

I run Somas now and they work great, they stay tight every time I cinch them down.
I understand how nylon sandwiched between leather reinforces things, darn, what to do??

Edit-Screw it, I am just going to get some Pake Space Straps, there is too much hype around doubles and which ones to get.

Somas/ all city straps are crap. I killed a pair of them in three months and then got toshis. Not only did I end up spending more in the long run, I used an inferior product until it died. I feel pretty sure that my toshis will outlive me so I really wish that I had just gone with them in the first place. This is a very common story and I didn't listen either, so whatever. Seriously though, if you are going to be riding a decent amount at all just get the toshis, you will not regret it.

But why are they crap?
I am not really getting any details on this from anyone. What specifically happened to the straps that classifies them as crap? I am sure Toshis are amazing, but don't want to spend the money.
Please provide some specifics as to why Soma/All City straps are junk, and while we are on the topic, why not just buy some 25 dollar wellgo straps that are synthetic?

I may have taken this too far.
I think if I could just feel and smell the straps, that would help me make a decision.

Really? More reliable than either of your panasonic frames, or your sugino 75. In that case I will trade you 4 sets of new toshi doubles, 1 for each frame and 1 for each crankset. They are more reliable, just think of how much safer you will be.

Ahhhhhhhhh... the peace of mind just walking around with 5 pairs of toshis on my shoes at all time. Priceless (or for you a trade).

read my mind adriano. cadence doubles are nice,a couple friends run them and love them. definitely good quality. ive been curious to try out plemons. i think a buckle would be so much nicer than the fastening mechanism thats on all straps now.
