Rod brakes won't stay adjusted
Hey, all.
I've been wondering about this for a while: I can never get the front brake on my Raleigh DL-1 to stay properly adjusted for long -- the rod that descends from the lever always pulls out of the rod that ascends from the stirrup, and unfortunately it does this when I brake hard. I've tried everything I can think of to tighten the adjustment nut (putting the rods in clamps and using a long pipe on the socket wrench for leverage, for instance), and I got the guy at my LBS to do the same, but it still always pulls out. I don't really want to put Loctite on an adjustable part. Is there something I'm missing here?
(This just happened to me on the way home from a pub in the rain, which goes well with the whole mid-twentieth-century England vibe of the Raleigh, but still isn't a lot of fun. Fortunately, there aren't too many hills around here.)

take some degreaser and clean thoroughly. If that doesn't remedy things, take a spring loaded center punch and make a slight dent in the rod where the fixing nut goes.

File a small flat on the bar where the pinch bolt sits, that will give it more surface area to bite and also a small shoulder to prevent movement..... Had the same problem
