skip tooth chain ?
i picked these on one of my bike hunting trips. they came from an old timer who for 40 years ran a bike shop out of his home/garage/basement. this guy saved every thing! unfortunately most of what he worked on was low end kids bikes so i found very little if any vintage roadie stuff. i actually picked these up thinking that they were standard single speed chains. i searched a little online and it sounds like they are skip tooth chains and a little rare. anybody know when they stopped making these ? they were in the original boxes wrapped in wax paper with no markings on the box or on the chain. i am thinking about going back soon to dig around some more, if i find more should i grab them?

Just like land......not making anymore of them. Grab while you can.
Diamond was one of the last to manufacture them but I can' t tell you when. Definately worth more in the paper and box. NOS skip chain

When you go back, keep an eye out for desirable old hubs:
Bendix Automatic or Bendix 2 speed, New Departure, Morrow, Perry or hubs with "Schwinn" in a cursive script.
Happy Hunting!

I think they stopped making the skip tooth chains during the 1970s. Most companies stopped making bikes that used them in the 1940s, though I know that CWC's heavyweights were still using them in the 1950s.

Some of the Bendix hubs may be worth grabbing. Look for hubs that have:
1. colored stripes on the hubshell, especially three stripes
2. "Automatic" engraved on the brake reaction arm
3. "Bendix" written in red on the brake arm
4. an enlarged hubshell near the sprocket
5. an unusually large attachment on the sprocket
6. any sort of shift mechanism attached to the axle
7. a skiptooth sprocket
8. a "finned" hubshell
Pass on hubs that have "Mexico" engraved on the brake arm.
You can do an Ebay search for "bendix" in the Collectibles/Transportation/Bicycles category to get an idea of what the going rate is for a hub. Sort of...
