Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

its also a problem with 5800/6800, just search through various forums. There is even a cover to check/fish out the broken heads on the 11 speed shifters. The routing isn't all that different within the shifter. I've never broken a cable on 5500/5600/6600/5700/6700/6800 on various bikes. All it takes is checking the cable heads every 1000 miles or so.

4700 compatability.

Hi Guys, I have done extension testing with 4700 as I have both 10 & 11 speed bikes & work in a bikeshop as a mechanic. 4700 is better than 6700 in that the shifting/braking designs are later modelled plus shift pull is faster like 11 speed. Not sure regards reliability etc though yet.
Regards compatability 4700 will not work well with anything other than 4700 or GRX400 10 speed R derailleur. The important point is everybody is getting the pull ratio aspect wrong. Yes the levers have same pull ratio for gears but because they indexed for 10 speed, not 11 speed then unless you have the correct R derailleur with the compatability actuation ratio they out a little. You can use a floating guide pulley to compensate as it's only a small error but it slows down shifts.
Bottom line, use 4700 R derailleur or the GRX400 to match correctly. Haven't tried front but likely 10 & 11 compatable there as its not critical as there is only 1 or 2 shifts.

While this might be your experience and sound advice (?) - I’m currently using Tiagra 4725 10 speed shifters with R8000 Ultegra 11 speed RD and the shifting is great
