Dura Ace Headset Lock Washer
Going through my bin of DA 74xx headsets and it appears they've all been cobbled together one way or another. None of the lock washers on my three HP-7400 headsets fit in the cutout of the upper head cup (see pic grabbed from the internet). The lock washer OD is too big and rests on top of the outside edge of cup nut. Can anyone confirm the lock washer is supposed to fit inside the cutout of the cup nut? I'll get it to work either way, just aggravating if I've bought 3 headsets with misfit lock washers.

I have a 7410. There is 0.085” between the threaded top cap and the upper bearing cover. There was only one spacer (same as seen on Velobase). CORRECTED: per latter post, this version may not have the recess.
On the other hand, I just put together a different bike with different brand headset, but similar situation. As I received, the spacer was definitely sitting on top. I noticed that and found a thin properly sized spacer that dropped down into the recessed area and used that in addition.

Yeah, Plonz, you own an earlier DA version. I just popped open a NIB 7410. No cutout like Steel1 said.
I imagine a large generic lock washer will work, if the aesthetics don't bother you.
Just about due, myself, to rebuild the 7410 on my Merlin. Not my favorite task.
Fingers crossed for the cartridge bearings looking okay. Been almost ten years!

The one I have on my Serotta has a nested washer.
There are a couple of contemporary "fashion" headsets (found on Electras, unfortunately only in 1-1/8) made by VP that still use nested washers.

You might also try to find a used headset on eBay or your LBS. Either the entire thing or the piece you need.
Used versions became plentiful when threadless arrived on the market. Good luck.

I just found a spare washer. PM me and I will mail it to you.
This comes off an identical DA headset like yours, and fits in the cutout.
The headset came with a used fork I bought on eBay many years ago...with an extra washer!
