Another mechanic in the shop wanted a scratch free stem and seatpost after adjustment.
The stem to steerer was too slick, not enough friction, add some roughness.
Sometimes one can be too clever.

Hones ball or blade easily clog, (not all tubes have bare metal), do not handle burrs, of which I've seen in Schwinn's welded areas, and the stones plug on non-ferrous material and are ruined. By far a 12 ga. gun bore brush or 10 ga for a tighter fit has worked for me. They'll clean out what hones can leave behind followed by a bore swab to pick up the residue with a rinsing in solvent then the swab with bore oil, or your favorite, to reduce rusting. I thought of wax based metal protectant, think cosmoline, swabbed in the tube but that can make the seat post sticky and hard to pull.

I was also thinking of getting a threaded rod and cutting rough little 1” circles of 3m pads and stacking them and tightened between two washers, but not sure if there is a threaded rod with a drill friendly end out there...?

Saw that somewhere in the past...

circles of 3m pads
That's a good idea. Most drill chucks max out at 3/8" so that or 5/16" and chucks will hold just about anything round or hex. Sometimes I chuck the bore brush in a drill instead of using the T handle. A good brush or 3M pad won't remove material that can alter the tube ID.

Steel, aluminum or carbon fiber?

It really gives it away who I worked for when I say predominately Ti with some alloy. There was one steel frame, but I only saw 2 in my 2years there.

Haha...not to me. No clue who that would be honestly. My knowledge of modern frames does not include the carbon era...
