Monterey Peninsula Vintage Ride Saturday, Oct. 14th

I posted this over on the Camellia City Vintage Lightweight Cycling Club page, but everyone is certainly welcome to attend if they'd like!
"So, one of our esteemed members, Eddy Magdaleno, has recently moved down to the Monterey area. This is bad news, as Eddy won’t be able to make most of our third Saturday rides, but this is also good news as it now gives those that are so motivated a chance to take a trip down to Monterey to ride with Eddy! I’ve been working with Eduardo Magdaleno and Frank Peter Canon to set up a ride along the Monterey peninsula, and we’ve settled on a date. The ride will take place on Saturday, October 14th, leaving from the Walmart parking lot in Marina (150 Beach Rd, Marina, CA 93933) at 9am. We’ll ride along the trail in Fort Ord Dunes, the Monterey Bay Trail, along Seventeen-Mile Drive, reaching our destination at the Pebble Beach Market & picnic area for a lunch stop before heading back. The ride is around forty-seven miles long, with ocean views along most of its length. Eddy says we’ll be passing a great bike shop with lots of vintage bikes, so that may be a good place to regroup (and take a look at some nice bikes). Working on finding a place for dinner for anyone that might want to stay in the area overnight Saturday." Here’s the route:

Hey, Guy!
Yep, 47 miles total. It's out and back along the same route, with a stop halfway through for lunch, and other stops as need be to regroup. Conversational pace, no-drop ride. The scenery is too beautiful to race past.

If I were to relocate anywhere, that area would be at the top of my preferred list of locations.

Just wanted to bump this for folks that might have missed it when it was posted. The extended weather forecast looks like sun with a high of 64.

I am way too far away for this but would drop everything to go otherwise. Couple of teaser pics for those who may not have ridden in that locale.

Ten to 14 days earlier and we would have looked and felt like drowned rats. Thanks for the weather assist, nlerner.

Not a problem. We'll stop to regroup at any area that might be confusing on the route.

That reminds me- If anyone's planning on attending and they think they might possibly show up a bit late, private message me and I'll shoot you my cell number so you can make sure we don't begin the ride without you.

Although I'll be out of town that day, I would love to join this ride sometime in the future.
I live near that Walmart in Marina.
Enjoy the beautiful ride!

Sorry we're going to miss you, Mike! If it goes well, maybe we'll do it again in the spring. You sure live in a beautiful area!

I'm officially in, so you will likely have company. We can be the grupetto.

it helps that this is not exactly a hilly ride. In practice, a "conversational pace" means we should all stay pretty close together most of the time. The biggest impediment to staying with the group will be the fantastic views and the strong urge to stop and take photos every 200 feet, at least once we pass the Borg Motel (a little past the Monterey Bay Aquarium).

Exactly correct, Rich! I don’t think we’ll have a problem keeping the group together.

I'm a strong maybe. I've been fighting some knee pain. If the knee feels good in the morning I'll head down.

Naw, we should be pretty conspicuous out there. Just use your vintage bike hunting radar and it'll lead you right to us.
