Got some bars and a stem that will work for now. (still building some to my own spec).
Can't believe how much fun I am having on this build. Have some other bikes I really love. This one has been sitting
on the rack in back of the motorhome with only 2 trips to the local trails.
Coming from MI and CO, it is shocking the quality and quantity of good trails here in Central Florida. (some may not agree)
Live 3 miles from Croom Rd. / Rec/ Area.
Shop is in Inverness. Been going to Santos trails. (Cross Florida?)

I'm a steel and Ti guy @ heart, but his era of Conquest is highly underrated in my experience (maybe I'm saying that to justify me having three framesets). I have 2003-ish Conquest Pro that clears 40's, a 2009 canti/disk that clears 700x38 and 650x47 and my favorite, a 2005-ish Conquest Disc-R...the road offering...that clears 700x32, 650x47 and 26x2.3 Rene Herse Rat Trap Pass! The DIsc-R frame weighs in @ only 1310g (2.89lbs)!

I'm considering switching this bike from 1x to 2x. After doing some weight calculations, I can break even in terms of weight and keep the same low gearing if I go with a non-clutch RD paired with an 11-36t cassette. My shifters are already 2x, so those stay the same. I somewhat miss the faster top speeds and smoother chain line of a 2x setup. Though I also appreciate the simplicity of my current 1x setup. Decisions!

I wanted a new bike, but love that vintage bike esthetic. I wanted something a bit fancier than an:
all city/surly/fairdale/ soma etc...
But I don't think I could afford a full custom steel bike. By no means is this an all out dream build, but for me this is pretty close.

I'm loving it so far - only wish it had mounts for racks etc. It has fender mounts but that's it.
The 3rd bottle mount is a great place to put the air tank fro my horn. lol The front tire is actually as close to that air bladder as the picture looks - no way a fender would fit in that gap.
I'm now running a small 1/2 frame bag so I had to remove the water bottle cages as there is no way to add bottles. But the 2L hydration backpack takes up that slack and then some.
The "joys" of having 28" legs.

So I realized that I don't like drop bars anymore. Also around the same time I decided I don't like sleeping indoors anymore either. My Specialized AWOL has gone... AWOL.
Before: Walmer Bar 750mm, 34t x 9-46t
After: VO Crazy Bar, 30t x 9-46t (still couldn't get up a 20% grade tho)

This frame was laying around being unused. I decided to re-purpose it for gravel using budget frame parts mostly from AliExpress:
2017 Motobecane Sprint CF Comp post mount CX/gravel frameset / fork was replaced with carbon flat mount fork with additional bottle cage mounts
Wide flare carbon drop bars / Serfas cork bar tape
31.6 carbon seat post
Ryet 3D printed carbon saddle

Uno 7075 lightweight 90mm stem / with aero spacers / 6g carbon top cap w/titanium screw
GRX 400 10 speed shifters converted into 1x

IMO, the Uno stem is a low-key gem. I'm using one on my gravel bike, too. This was one of the few I found with the -17 drop I needed, and it's quite light, but well-built.

With titanium stem screws, mine are sub 100g. I have them installed on all 3 of my bikes. I also feel the screw mount plates are easier to install and are well-suited for carbon drop bars.

I have Uno7 UL stems on my main 4 bikes. The old red 7 style also had paint that easily wiped away with nail polish in 15 seconds.
No idea why people spend $40 more for a branded aluminum stem that also weighs 50g more.

Yes, I should have stocked up on more of these back 4 years ago when Uno7 Ultralight stems were $18-22 on ebay. For a couple years after, every vendor was constantly out of stock of the angle and length I wanted.
I have Uno7 UL stems on my main 4 bikes. The old red 7 style also had paint that easily wiped away with nail polish in 15 seconds.
No idea why people spend $40 more for a branded aluminum stem that also weighs 50g more.
